"A man speaking sense to himself is no madder than a man speaking nonsense not to himself."

Chapter Six:

Parker released the rag from her mouth and nose. He slowly placed her back down on the seat and tossed the rag in the back of his car, figuring he will dispose of it later. Reaching over, Parker adjusted her seat to lean back, figuring she will sleep better if she was reclined back.

Sitting there, and staring down at her, Parker wondered who could have possibly even dared to think about hurting someone as beautiful as her.

Smiling, he knew he sounded cheesy. But honestly to Parker, there wasn't a woman that walked the face of the earth that wasn't beautiful in some aspect. Nola was no exception.

He brushed a piece of her black hair out of her face.

 "Creeper," He told himself.

Chuckling, Parker turned forward in his seat and started the car.

His destination was his apartment. While it was small and had only one room, living room and kitchen that was meant to house one person at a time - he called it home. It didn't help that it was the only thing he could afford, but that was a different matter entirely, he thought.

It took him about fifteen minutes before he was pulling up to his apartment complex. Shutting off his car, he unbuckled and got out.

"There you are," Mrs. Heldia, his landlord stated as she rushed over to him. "You owe me five hundred bucks, Kid. Rents up."

"Is it really? Wow, I feel like I just paid you last month."

Mrs. Heldia rolled her green eyes, "That's how it works, Boy. Every month you pay me."

Parker gave her a crossed look, "Are you serious? That sounds like a rip-off."

Mrs. Heldia held her hand out, clearly wanting money.

Parker didn't perceive her notion as that, "I won't hold your hand, Mrs. Heldia. I have no idea what you've touched."

"Money, Son, I want my money."

"What bank do you have?" Parker questioned.

"Bank?"

"Yes, if you want your money you should call them up. I'm sure they will be more than willing to help you."

Mrs. Heldia glared at Parker, "I want you to give me the money you owe me."

"I owe you money?"

Mrs. Heldia threw her hands up in the air, "I give up!" She stated and then marched away.

"Don't give up, Mrs. Heldia!" He yelled after her.

She just flipped him off before strolling over to her apartment that was below his.

Parker shrugged his shoulders and walked over to the passenger side of his car. He opened the door, "Well, don't just lay there, get out ... I'm not going to carry you Nola B." Parker stared down at the girl who was passed out in his passenger seat. "Well, if you won't wake up ... I guess I will have too."

Leaning in, Parker unbuckled Nola. He placed his left hand under her neck and right arm under her knees. "I have to say, you are the lightest person I've ever carried." He kicked the door closed behind him. "We are going to have to do something about that," He muttered. "I promise, though, there will be no shit cake in that plan."

Parker chuckled but then started to note that he probably looked like a crazy person by talking to himself. "I'm not crazy," He muttered as he started up the stairs. "Because I'm not talking to myself. Right, Nola B.?" He asked as he looked down at her sleep form. "Right," He confirmed.

When Parker reached his apartment door he realized a problem. His keys were in his front right pocket and he couldn't get them without putting Nola down.

Sighing, he placed Nola on the ground with her back up against the side of his apartment. He let go but when he did her body started to lean over. "Oh no, you don't," He exclaimed as he sat her back upright. "Stay," He stated as he let go of her.

Parker watched for a minute to see if she would start to fall over again, and thankfully she didn't. "Good," He proclaimed before reaching into his pocket and pulling out his keys.

It wasn't long before Parker was opening his door. "Home sweet home."

Picking Nola up, Parker walked in. "Don't get the idea that we are married and I'm carrying you over the threshold." Parker joked. "You will learn to laugh at my jokes..."

Parker took her into his bedroom and sat her down on the bed. "This is my room, but now it's yours. I claim the couch." Reaching down, Parker took off her shoes and set them neatly beside the bed. "Don't argue, the couch is very comfortable."

"I seriously need to stop talking to myself," Parker stated as he realized he had been talking to a passed out Nola and himself.

Walking over to his door, but before he left, Parker looked over at Nola. "Sleep tight, Nola B."
