Love Triangles

This is yet another thing that makes me hate romance. Now, I have heard of love triangles in real life, but not very often. So why is there always some kind of love triangle thrown into a story somehow? It's incredibly annoying and incredibly predictable. Love triangles always have these easy-to-predict patterns that manage to make me hate three characters at once. Here's a few:

Pattern 1: Two guys like the same girl. The girl goes with guy 1 and guy 2 gets all butthurt. While the girl is with guy 1, something weird happens that prevents them from being together and it gets complicated. So she goes with guy 2 to humor him, but she's still thinking about guy 1. After miraculously working it out with guy 2, she ultimately ends up with guy 1 and guy 2 is suddenly okay with it for some reason.

Pattern 2: A simpler one, but still annoying. Two guys like the same girl. The girl goes with guy 1, but then guy 1 isn't right for her so she goes with guy 2 and they are perfect for each other.

Pattern 3: The girl's best friend is in love with her, but he hasn't told her yet. And even with all the hints and the fact that they're best friends, the girl has no fricken idea that he's into her. Then some other guy shows up and the girl falls in love with him. The best friend confesses his love for her after she falls in love with the new guy and makes everything complicated. Then a bunch of dramatic, romance BS happens and the best friend loses out, but is, again, for some reason okay with it.

Yeah, they're that stupid. What really makes me angry is that I've seen this with almost every single female protagonist! And it isn't even in romance all the time. I see this crap pop up in genres I actually like and it pisses me off! It makes the girl look bitchy, whiny, and indecisive in that order, while the guys look like complete morons who lost their penises. For God's sake, relationships can get plenty complicated without a stupid-ass love triangle. Have someone in the couple experience something tragic and their significant other has to figure out how to help them through it. Have them in a financial crisis. Maybe one's addicted to drugs or has some kind of mental disorder to work through. There are hundreds of different relationship-complicating scenarios that can be worked into a story. Don't just regurgitate a love triangle out of nowhere and call it a "bump in the road".

Love triangles are character-murderers. After almost every single love triangle situation I've seen, I ended up hating all three characters by the end. There were some cases where the girl uses one of the guys to get back at the other, making her look like a total bitch. Do you know how many times that's been done? "Oh I'll just date this guy to make him jealous". Just...stop.
