Kirstin's POV
It's Wednesday, which means my long awaited time to work on my duet with Mitch has in fact arrived, but as always, I have to have lunch first. Food is mandatory.  I grab the familiar brown paper bag from my locker and slowly make my way to the large cafeteria. Two tables to the right, five tables in. I think as I glance around the room for my table. Soon enough I spot it and smile as I also spot my friends.
"Hey guys!" I say cheerfully when I join them at the table. Avi and Chanel look at me and both smile.
"Hey Kirst! Why are you so cheerful today?" Chanel asks with a light chuckle. I shrug and take a bite out of my sandwich.
"I don't see why it's weird for me to be cheerful," I chuckled. Chanel and Avi joined in. As we were all eating, I feel my phone buzz in my pocket. I take out my phone and see a text from Matt.
McMatt: hey babe! I'm sorry we haven't talked in awhile. How's school going?
Kweenkirst12: pretty good. Most of the people are nice here. And I know you're secretly freaking out about if there are any cute boys there, and the answer is hell no.
McMatt: phew! You had me worried! Well anyways babe I love you and miss you❤️
Kweenkirst12: I love you and miss you too!❤️I'll come visit at Christmas!🎄
McMatt: I would love that! Bye baby!
Kweenkirst12: bye!
I put away my phone and sigh. Avi and Chanel take notice of the sigh and both cock an eyebrow at me.
"Okay what happened to extra cheerful Kirstin?" Avi laughed. I couldn't help but laugh too.
"Oh I just really miss my boyfriend. He's back in my hometown," I state sadly. Chanel pats my arm.
"Hey it's okay, just try and talk to him as much as possible," I smiled at her kindness and nodded my head. Our friendship moment was ruined when another figure joined the table.
"Hey uh, Kirstin," Mitch said awkwardly under the harsh glances he was getting from both Avi and Chanel. "Can we go into class early and practice?" he asked. I nodded.
"Uh yeah, I'll meet you there," I gave him a small smile before he left and walked back to his clique.
"Ew," Chanel gagged, "I can't believe we both ended up with the most idiotic people in school," I laughed but felt guilty of it. I guess Mitch isn't as idiotic as I thought he was.
"By the way how's your duet with Catt going?" I asked whilst cocking an eyebrow in Chanel's direction. She rolled her eyes.
"Don't even get me started. It's an all-about-Catt routine. I'm basically her back-up dancer," Avi and I both chuckled.
"Well as much as I would love to help you with that, I have a duet to go and work on so," I said getting up from the table.
"Is your duet going the same direction as mine?" Chanel asked.
"Nope, it's actually going quite well," they both looked at me suspiciously. "Don't worry I still hate him," I said with a sigh. They then went back to normal. As I exited the cafeteria, I let out an exasperated breath. I then headed into the change room and changed into my black sports bra and shorts, I put a loose crop top over it and headed into the studio. As soon as Mitch spotted me, he left his group and made his way over to me.
"Hey so let's go over the dance, just mark it for now then we'll find a practice room during class and work on it," I said. Mitch smiled and agreed.
"Sounds good ma'am," he answered as he winked at me. I caught myself blushing and mentally slapped myself for it. We then got in our positions and went through the entire dance. I loved this dance more than any other dance I've ever created, and that was crazy. As soon as we finished marking through the dance, Ms Marsden strutted into the room rather posh-like. Is that a thing?
"Okay class, line up against the barré and give me one hundred Pliés. Remember good posture. Everything has to be perfect," everyone groaned and lined up against the barré. After ten thousand minutes of pliés, we were finally ready, as Ms Marsden says, to work on our duet projects.
"I will remind you that this is worth 25% of your grade which may seem like a small amount, but it's a lot." Everyone looked frightened but nodded. Mitch, who happened to be standing next to me, grabbed my hand and led me out into one of the practice rooms.
"Hand me your iPod," he said. I handed it to him suspiciously. He then found the song and looked at me.
"I heard your convo about me in the cafeteria you know," he said bluntly, "I thought you at least liked me as a friend," I sighed.
"Mitch I'm so sorry. It's just-Chanel and Avi don't like you and they're my only friends, besides you. If I told them that you were my friend, they'd freak out at me. I'm not friends with everyone like you, so I have to lie in order to keep everyone happy," I sighed and looked away.
"Listen I know this may sound weird coming from me, but Chanel and Avi aren't like that. They are the most accepting and open-minded people in the world. They'll understand if you want to be friends with me," he smiled widely at me. I nodded.
"You're right, they are like that. Oh my god I'm such an idiot," I shook my head, "anyways let's work on this dance," Mitch chuckled and agreed.
"Yeah let's make this magical duet come to life," and with that, we danced. The dance was beautiful and I really felt the chemistry between Mitch and I. As we reached the end of the dance, Ms Marsden appeared in the doorway. We continued dancing until the end, with and Marsden paying close attention to everything we do. When we finished she gave us a smile.
"It was okay," she started, "Kirstin watch your feet throughout the dance. Mitch, don't look too emotionless throughout the dance. I want you to really express how the character is feeling throughout the song," we both nodded. She then closed the door.
"Holy shit," Mitch started, "that's the nicest comment she's ever given," we then smile widely at each other.
"Double high five?" I say with a chuckle.
"Double high five," Mitch responds laughing before we high five each other.
"Okay now that we've done that can you please help me with my pointing feet problem?" I ask before Mitch nods. We then get to work and before we know it the period is over. We high five one last time before we both disappear into our designated changing rooms. I must say, this guy ain't so bad after all. But his girlfriend is a whole other story. Just wait until I tell you what happens on the day of September 15, 2016.
