The house had paint peeling from it,
The grass had died long ago in the heat,
The steps to the house were chipped and broken,
The door was hanging off the hinges about to fall,
As I walked up to the house the old tree creaked and cracked in the wind,
I felt the sweat dripping down my back,
I was scared on what I would find in the house,
I walked slowly up to the house,
I stepped lightly on the steps testing their weight,
I went up the first step; next the second; then the third; and lastly the fourth step,
I walked to the door with a little more confidence,
I walked in waiting just inside the door and I let my eyesight get adjusted to the change of light,
I walked in the house cautiously,
I saw something laying a corner,
Then it moved,
I screamed; the thing that moved got up and walked towards me,
I was shocked,
It was an old dog.
