In the prologue everyone was 10, now they are almost 18. Senior year of high school.
7.5 years later

Marinette Dupain-Cheng was never on time for school. It had always happened, all through the her school years. She and her parents, Tom and Sabine, both found it ironic because her parents bakery was just across the street, but it was always Marinette's ability to oversleep that kept her from getting in on time.

Today thought, seemed to be lucky because she was about 2 minutes early. Her books were tightly clutched to her chest, in fear she might drop them, knowing how clumsy she can be sometimes. She had made it to the first step that led up to the tall school building when a white limo pulled up to the sidewalk near her.

Oh no. It's him! She thought. Her heart raced as momentarily she was frozen in fear, simply holding onto her books and watching as Adrien Agreste, her ex best friend, climbed out of the limo, a small satchel around his shoulders. He turned after closing his door, not bothering to watch the limo drive off. Immediately his bright green eyes met Marinette's, making a small smirk appear on his lips.

"Marinettte Dupain-Cheng," he said taking a step closer. "How convenient I found you here." That's when she took off, turning and opening the doors of the school with all her strength. She'd be safe in her classroom, which was upstairs. She took off, running down the lobby/gym area. Some of the boys were playing basketball on the court, not paying any attention to Marinette. She turned a corner, nearly on the first step, when someone grabbed the back of her jacket and pulled her behind the stairs, slamming her back into the wall.

"Marinette since when have you beat us to the classroom?" Chloe said, coldy. Marinette tried to wriggle out of her grasp, wanting to escape this. Chloe noticed the books Marinette had dropped and laughed humorlessly. "Oh you dropped your books!" She kicked them away. "Whoppsie." She smirked while Marinette continued to wriggle in her grasp. Suddenly she felt someone grab her wrist.

You wouldn't need a fortune teller, or to even look up to know it was Adrien, his hand wrapped tightly around her wrist and twisting the flesh so it hurt more. "This is what you deserve." He said, coldly. "You ruined my life, I'll ruin yours." Marinette felt tears threatening to spill, but she didn't let them.

"Let me go!" She said, loudly. Adrien and Chloe laughed.

"Why should we?"

"Hey!" A girl Marinette had never seen before walked over towards them, her light brown eyes filled with anger. "The hell do you think you're doing to her?!" She said, hands on her hips. Marinette took a moment to look at the girl over Adriens shoulder while he and Chloe looked for an answer. The girl had light brown skin, auburn hair with red tips. She wore a red, white and black plaid shirt with some orange in it. She must be new. Marinette thought.

"What she deserves!" Adrien said, twisting Marinette's wrist. It was a reflex, although she had never done it before. Her knee lifted and hit Adriens side, making him go stumbling backwards.

"You little-" he started, but the new girl shoved him away. Chloe looked at Adrien in concern, then at the girl with anger.

"How dare you!" She said, walking over to her. The new girl scoffed.

"You think only she makes mistakes! Everyone does, it's human! Now back off, or your first day will be talking with the principle! And I'm sure you don't want that!" She pointed a threading finger at Chloe, and her eyes looked between her and Adrien. Chloe huffed and walked away, heels clicking. Adrien got up with a scowl on his face, glaring at Marinette.

"You'll get what you deserve." He whispered to her, before walking after Chloe.

Ever since the prank, Adrien changed. Something snapped inside of him. For the last 5 years, he just ignored Marinette. Then his mother suddenly went missing. That's when he teamed up with his new bestie, Chloe and they began to bully Marinette. That was over 2 years ago.

The girl scoffed and offered Marinette her hand. Slowly, Marinette took it and the girl pulled her up. "Don't listen to them. I'm Alya, by the way." She said, smiling.

"Marinette." She said it in a voice barley above a whisper, still shaking.

"Hey," Alya said. "It's okay. They're gone." She put a reassuring hand on Marinette's shoulder, making her relax a bit. They both jumped at the sounds of the bell, and Marinette scrambled to pick up her books. Alya helped, pic,ING up some loose papers and a few folders.

"Do you know where room 1247 is?" Alya asked, when they had finished.

"That's my Homeroom class, actually! I'll show you!" Marinette said, beaming. Alya smiled back as they walked out from behind the stairs.

"Wanna be friends?" She asked as they walked up the stairs. Marinette nodded, both of them smiling.

"Definitely." And together they walked in the class, ignoring Adrien and Chloes scowls, explaining that Marinette was late because she was helping Alya, and settling in the second row seats on the right side of the room, whispering and chatting.

After years of loneliness and bullying, Marinette had found a friend. And it made her happy. Alya was sweet, confident and creative, saying she wanted to be a reporter. Alya was also very interested in Marinette's dream of becoming a designer, saying it sounds amazing. Class was only and hour and a half, but in that time, it felt like a lifetime to Marinette. She'd finally found a friend. No, a best friend, as Alya had said when they parted ways after class.

Adrien POV
Time Skip:After School
Adrien sat in his fathers limo, his fingers gently drumming against his bag. Marinette had found a friend, he thought mockingly. Yet a part of him felt hurt. Adrien ignored the feeling and pushed it aside.

When he returned home, he was greeted by a bottle of beer nearly hitting his head. He ducked out of the way, immediately closing the front doors without even looking at them. Fear filled up in his chest, making his heart race. He looked up to meet the cold eyes of his father, Gabriel Agreste.

"I just got your final grades from last school year Adrien." He began to walk down the stairs, his eyes never leaving Adriens. "I thought you had been taught better, but it seems I was wrong." Gabriel let Adrien stand against the door in silence as he walked down the last few stairs and made his way towards Adrien.

He discovered he was shaking. Not Gabriel, but Adrien. His father grew closer, the smell of alcohol getting stronger as Adriens heart raced. He hit the inside of his cheek, preparing for the worst. Gabriel slapped Adrien, making him bite hard on his cheek as Adrien fell over. Adrien tasted the blood in his mouth as his father glared down at him. "I asked for A's but I get B's." He mumbled angrily, turning away.

Adrien remained on the ground, his heart racing in his chest. His green eyes stared at the ground, blankly. His heart raced and pounded in his ears.

That's all his life was now. Fear....and pain.
