REESE
I'm surrounded by eighteen girls and eighteen boys, each are holding stems of roses and lavender pink candles. And I chose lavender pink color for my evening dress in its simplest, yet modish style. No fancy laces, just plain soft and thin fabric. Just the way I like it. My accessories are only a pair of blue sapphire earrings and my favorite Pandora bracelet. And no make-up. Sabi ni Mommy, maganda naman daw ako kahit walang make-up.
As you enter the orphanage's dining hall, you will see balloons in various sizes and colors floating everywhere. The area is large enough to accommodate fifty tables for four, each has a vase with fresh freesias on it. And on the right, a table is set for a three-layer mocha cake. I'd rather spend for the needs of the orphanage rather than on lavish birthday preparations.
I was 10 then, sinabi ni Mommy na gusto niyang sa isa sa mga hotels gaganapin ang eighteenth birthday celebration ko. That includes an estimated 500 guests.
But when I turned 15, everything's changed. I didn't like the crowd. At ayokong maging center of attention. So when my family was featured in a cover of a magazine and people started to recognize me, that me uneasy. Later on, I realized, my family from both sides are considered huge names in business industry. But not me. Para sa akin, nakalakihan ko man ang marangyang pamumuhay at ito ang normal para sa akin, but minus the fame. I know. I'm lucky to have both. For me, it's a privilege enjoyed only by few people like us.
I can't hide from media forever.
Especially now that our company is active on its support for numerous institutions, people in the media wanted them so bad in their papers and shows to encourage others in the business industry to join them in their advocacy. Well, that's how my future life would be.
They won't even know who missed the event. At kahit pa may separate celebration ang parents ko para sa mga kakilala, intimate friends and relatives, still, I don't want my special day to be like that. I'm wondering if this is the same girl na dinalhan niya ng mga balloons at flowers dati. At some point, na-guilty ako. Babawi ako sa kanya after the holidays. Kumaway ako sa kanila. He gave me a salute and a flying kiss. Napangiti ako. Hindi pa rin nagbabago ang kapatid ko. Still the same Railey, playful and sweet.
