"Charlie?"
"Hm," He grunted after a moment of silence.
"Am I pretty?" I sounded stupid saying that to him. His eyes opened and his head turned towards me with a puzzling expression.
"Of course you are, you're beautiful. Why do you ask?" His voice was groggy and quiet.
"My mother," I answered. "She told me that I wasn't pretty enough to be with Dalton."
"Ouch," He gave me a sad look. "Was that what has been bothering you? Is that why you came to me?"
"Yeah, it was a small part of it." I answered truthfully.
"Darling, you are absolutely stunning, beautiful, gorgeous, and just striking. Don't think otherwise because you heartless mother said something." His arm tighten around me as he tried to pull me closer to him but I resisted. My cheeks turned a bright red and he exhaled a long breath. "I'm not going to do anything. I just want you to be comfortable, Darling." I hesitated for a moment until finally giving in after he nudge me again. I laid my head down on his stomach and could see him looking down at me with a soft smile. "Better?"
"Yeah," It came out airy. I did feel more comfortable laying down. My legs were falling asleep in every upright position that I sat in and after a while it would be unbearable. Now though, my legs were waking up with that tingly sensation and I was comfy.
"Good."
"Angel, wake up Angel," A soft voice rang into my ear.
"Dalton?" It came out squeaky and tired-like. I heard his melodic chuckle as I opened my eyes to see him. I lifted my head to find myself laying on Charlie's couch with the blanket around me and a pillow under my head.
"Hey, sleepy head." He spoke gently while moving strains of hair away from my face and behind my ear. He was on his knees so that he could be eye-level with me. I could see that same old camo hat on his head along with his sunglasses. He wore a black hoodie and dark jeans. "How'd you sleep?"
"Good," I muttered back and he chuckled again.
"I'm sorry I couldn't call you. We were trying to get a lot of stuff finished for the album that's due in a month," He told me while running his fingers slowly through my hair, "Charlie told me what happened."
"Yeah?"
"Yeah, I'm sorry. I should have been there for you."
"Charlie helped me," I told him and he nodded slowly.
"I know, I thanked him for that. This is why he's my best friend." Did Charlie tell him about what he told me? Or is he keeping that between us? "But still, I should have answered you. I feel like an ass now."
"You've always been an ass," Charlie's voice rumbled and I saw him come into my view. He was wearing a grey t-shirt now with his arms folded across his chest. He gave Dalton a hard look and he averted his eyes away from him.
"That's because you always call me it," Dalton grumbled.
"Of course I do," He smirked amused. "It's merely the truth."
"Thanks," Dalton was sarcastic.
"Sure thing ass," Charlie left the living room while Dalton lowered his head. He mumbled a string of words but I couldn't understand him. Charlie seemed to be back to his normal self, at least. I sat up on the couch and Dalton took a seat next to me. I curled up against his side inhaling the smell of his familiar cologne.
"Missed me much?"
"Very," I replied while his arms wrapped around me. He pulled me onto his lap and I laid my head against his chest listening to his heartbeat at a steady pace.
"Well, I missed you too Angel," He kissed my forehead softly. I stiffened because he kissed the same exact spot that Charlie had before. He noticed the action because he gave me a weird look. "Are you okay?"
"Yeah," I didn't know what to reply with. "I'm just a little shaken up over what happened still."
"Don't worry Angel, everything alright." He smiled softly.
"I know, everything's fine now," I replied.
"Okay," He gave me a small smile.
