Chapter 10

Twenty minutes later, the flight leader updated him how things were progressing, "It looks like they might be thinking of setting down on a luxury yacht. We can spot seven, maybe eight civilians on it? Could be more inside, out of sight? What are our orders?"

"Can you get a confirmed lock?"

Moments later the flight leader came back with, "Confirmed, got a solid lock. What are our orders?"

Just then Peris entered the control room, as the Captain was fighting a hard decision. "Captain, I agree, it's imperative, this doesn't move onto a civilian hostage situation. But we might have a better idea how to save all the personal on the chopper. We were holding out, hoping things might be salvageable, but it's obvious now that's not going to be the case. So after speaking with my superiors, we've decided now it's the time to terminate all three subjects, and wrap things up. The orders have already been given. I suspect in a few minutes, I'll receive word, all three have been successfully neutralized."

Captain, Harold Worthington, just looked back at a face of a man, who neither smiled nor frowned, who had grey to his sideburns -an attractive man maybe at sometime, but now all that had been replaced by hard features. He reckoned he was probably late forties, maybe early fifties, but someone who exercised, and who generally just took good care of himself. But also someone he felt, who had a very dark demon inside of him, with an insatiable appetite for cruelty. Which there were lots of in the military -cold, authoritative; and almost certainly, psychotic.

Just then, he got a squawk from the flight leader, "We have incoming, taking evasive action." Then some seconds later, "Report, rocket successfully destroyed."

"Sir, they are getting closer to the civilian target. If I don't act now, they'll be in a few minutes outside of my window, as deployment will be made impossible." He stopped again, returning with more urgency in his voice, "Repeat again, what are my orders. We have a hot lock and are ready to go on your orders."

The captain looked at Peris again, the man he had taken an immediate dislike too, three weeks before, when he had for the first time stepped on board his ship. And then replied into the phone, "Stand down, I repeat, stand down."

"Over the frequency came the muffled reply of the flight leader, "Okay, we're standing down, breaking off attack, and dropping back to original position."
