Chapter 18
It was the day I wasn't looking forward to at all.
Okay, I was looking forward to the end, but not the rest of it.
The stupid play.
I was looking forward to kissing Kamille, but that was it. I still hated being in the play and to make things worse, we were doing two performances; one tonight and one in two nights. One was enough.
Kamille was back at home after her parents tried so many times to call her, trying to find out where she was. It took one and a half weeks to realize that she wasn't home.
Everyone in the play had to stay at the school longer to run through it one more time, then we were allowed to go do whatever we wanted as long as we were back half an hour before the doors opened for the audience to come in.
Laughlin was busy working tonight, so my family was coming to watch it next time instead. Nick, on the other hand, was one of the stage managers, so he had to stay as well. And even though Taylor was only supposed to be a set builder, he had to be one of the set changers because he decided to hack to school system once again and made the bell ring early.
He blamed the school for having a weak security system.
Hey, if they didn't want a seventeen year old hacking into it, they should really upgrade it. It wasn't enough to just keep giving him detention.
When the time came to go back, Nick and I headed into the theater and I got into my costume. After doing so, I decided to go for a walk because it was way too crowded in here.
I walked around the school for a bit when Eva and Keegan walked up to me. "You should be back in the theater," Eva said. "Miss Conte is about to do role call to make sure the whole cast is there."
"Well, let me finish my walk," I said.
Eva snorted and crossed her arms. "Clearly you aren't familiar with what it's like being in a play," she said. "They're shouldn't be any tardiness at all."
"Clearly, you don't remember that I was forced into the play," I said. "Of course I don't know what it's like. So let me finish my walk and you can lecture me later. Okay?"
"No can do," Keegan said. "We actually have something to show you."
"What?" I asked. "And can you show me after because, like I've said, I want to finish my walk."
"It has to be now," Eva said before they both grabbed a wrist and pulled me somewhere.
Before I could even react because I was dumb as dirt at times, Eva opened the door to the janitor closet and Keegan pushed me in. They quickly closed the door and locked it with the keys they had.
I banged on the door with my open-hand. "Hey! This isn't funny!" I said.
"I don't know, it's pretty funny for us," Eva said. "Keegan, you ready to be Jacob in the play?"
"Why, of course," Keegan said. "That's why I learned the lines."
"You son of a....I'm not kidding, open the door!" I said.
"You're the one who didn't want to be in the play in the first place," Keegan said. "I'm doing you a favor. Now, I should probably go tell Kamille that she will be kissing me instead of you."
That got me even more pissed off as I pounded on the door even harder. "Open this damn door or so help me, I will kick your ass when I get out!"
"I'm so scared," Keegan said.
"You should be!" I said. "Laughlin Wilde? Ring a bell? You know, second best boxer when he was eighteen? Yeah, my brother?! He taught me everything he knows and I will beat the living crap out of you if you don't open this door in five seconds!"
"Yeah, but by then, I would have already been Jacob in the play and kiss the girl we know you like, so....Bye, Munro, have fun," Keegan said before I heard them walk away.
I couldn't believe them. Okay, I kind of can, but I was still really pissed. And why does the janitor's closet look from the outside only? Shouldn't there be lock on the inside just in case, I don't know, someone gets locked inside?
I tried my hardest to get out. I tried ramming into the door, kicking it, yelling quite loudly for someone to hear, but nothing worked. And to make things worse, I left my cell phone with my clothes, meaning I couldn't call Nick. Great.
I continued trying to get out, but nothing was working so in the end, I slumped down against the door. The play must have started by now and I was stuck in here while Keegan was playing my part.
I hated him and Eva.
Keegan better hide once I get out of here. My anger was getting the best of me and I would have to take it out on him.
Just thinking of Keegan kissing Kamille instead of me was hurting a lot. She was the girl I liked. She was the girl I trusted enough to tell about my past, though I still wasn't ready. She was the only person that could make me smile and laugh and she was the only person that wanted to see it happen.
But Keegan had to ruin everything.
I didn't know how long I was in here for, but I suddenly heard the doorknob rattling. I stood up right as the door opened, seeing Nick. "Why are you in here?" he asked. "And why did you miss the play?"
"The play's over?" I asked.
"Yeah, it just ended," he said. "Eva gave me these keys and told me to get something out of the closet for her. Did she lock you in here?"
"Yeah and now if you'll excuse me, I have to do some serious ass-kicking," I said, but Nick grabbed my arm to stop me.
"Don't take your anger out on others," he said.
"Don't?" I repeated. "Nick, Eva and Keegan locked me in here on purpose so I would miss the play and he could take my part. He learned my lines just so he could be the lead by locking me in here. He kissed Kamille before I did."
Nick sighed. "Speaking of, Kamille's mad at you."
"She's what?" I asked.
"She's mad you didn't show up," Nick said. "She told me to tell you that she doesn't want to talk to you. I'm sorry."
"I have to talk to her," I said.
"Don't bother," Nick said. "She left as soon as the play ended and she looked really hurt."
"It's not my fault though," I said. "Eva and Keegan...."
"I know," Nick said. "I'll try talking to her tomorrow. We should head home in the meantime." He handed me my cell phone and the clothes I wore before I got changed into the costume.
We left the school, without me caring that I was still in my costume. I had to make things up with Kamille tomorrow before the next performance.
And I had to kick some ass tomorrow as well.
