Laughlin let me stay home from school the next day. I know being kicked out of the play didn't seem like a big deal, but it was to me. I finally found something I liked, and it was just taken away from me.
Laughlin didn't have work today, so he dropped Nick off at school. Nick kept saying he was going to try talking to Miss Conte, but I knew it wasn't going to work at all. When she made up her mind, nothing could change it. Besides, it was Nick's word against Miss Conte's favorite student. No doubt she would believe Eva and Keegan against him.
By the time school was over, my cell phone suddenly rang. I sighed, looking at the caller id before answering. "What do you want, Nick?" I asked.
"Get over here," he said. "You're back in."
"Wait, what?" I asked.
"Okay, so, I knew I couldn't just tell Miss Conte what happened," Nick said. "I needed proof, so I got Taylor to hack the school system again. They really need to upgrade it. Anyway, he was able to get into the security camera footage and get this. There was a clear footage of Eva and Keegan putting you into the janitor's closet."
"Seriously?" I asked.
"Yes, seriously," Nick said. "Miss Conte feels really sorry she kicked you out and she wants you back in. And that's not even the best part. Keegan got kicked out and the kid that did his part last time will do it again and since nobody knows Eva's part, she performs one last time before she's getting kicked out. Miss Conte doesn't want either of them in a play anymore. So get down here now."
"Oh my god, I seriously owe you and Taylor so much," I said. "Thank you so much, Nick."
"Yeah, yeah, just shut up and get here," Nick said. "And tell Laughlin that he can actually come to the play tonight."
"Okay, I'm on my way," I said before I hung up. Grabbing my keys and putting my phone in my pocket, I walked out of my bedroom. "Laughlin, good news. You and Elliot can come to the play tonight."
"What?" Laughlin asked. "But I thought you got kicked out."
"Nick got Taylor to hack into the security system and got the footage of what Eva and Keegan did," I said. "After tonight, they're not allowed to be in a play anymore. I get to perform tonight."
Laughlin gave me a smile. "I'm happy for you. You heading to the school now?"
"Yeah," I said.
"Good luck tonight," Laughlin said. "We'll be there."
"Thanks," I said before leaving the apartment.
I drove to the school and as soon as I got there, I went straight to the theater where everyone was getting ready for tonight's performance by either running through their lines, or working on set changes.
Miss Conte walked over as soon as she saw me. "Munro, I am so sorry I didn't give you a chance to explain what happened," she said. "Are you going to perform tonight?"
"Yeah, definitely," I said.
"Okay, great," Miss Conte said before walking away.
When she did, Kamille walked over. "Hey," she said.
"Hi," I said.
"Munro, I'm sorry I got mad at you and refused to listen to you," she said.
