Chapter 19

The next day at school, Kamille refused to talk to me. I tried to talk to her, but she either ignored me and walked away or told me to leave her alone. I didn't even do anything wrong. As much as I didn't want to be in the stupid play, I was still going to show up.

Nick tried talking to her as well to explain what happened, but Kamille kept saying she didn't want to talk about me. Even Taylor tried. It didn't work at all.

I was trying to hold my anger in so I didn't get into trouble for fighting Keegan, but it wasn't working that much. By the end of the school day, I was ready to beat him up.

But it had to wait because Miss Conte called me down to the theater after school. I walked over there, meeting the drama teacher in the theater. I had a feeling it was going to be about me not showing up last night.

"Munro, I am very disappointed in you," she said. "I know you didn't want to be in the play in the first place, but I thought you would at least have some respect for the theater and show up to the play."

"Miss Conte, you don't understand, I was...."

"No, I'm pretty sure I do," Miss Conte said. "You didn't show up to the play. You were so lucky that Keegan knew your lines and blocking, and someone knew Keegan's. He had to step in because you didn't show up."

"Miss Conte, it wasn't my fault, I...."

"I don't want to hear an excuse," Miss Conte said. "You didn't show up. That's that. I really hate to do this because I thought you would have at least showed up, but you will not be performing tomorrow night."

       "What?" I asked.

"I'm sorry, but tomorrow, Keegan will be playing Jacob again," she said. "You are no longer in the lay."

       "But Miss Conte...."

"No, Munro," Miss Conte said. "I've made up my mind. You can go now."

I didn't even bother trying to convince her otherwise because she wasn't listening to what I was saying. So I left the theater with a pang in my heart. I didn't even want to be in the play in the first place. So why was I so hurt that I got kicked out?

       I think I knew why.

And it had nothing to do with me kissing Kamille.

Nick was waiting outside of the theater because I told him to meet me there. "So?" he asked. "What happened?"

"She kicked me out of the play," I said. "She didn't even want to hear anything I had to say."

"Well, that's good-ish, right?" he asked. "I mean, you didn't even want to be in the play in the first place." I looked down. "Wait. You want to be in the play?"

"Yeah," I said. "And not because of Kamille. I like acting, Nick. It's something I never thought I would like, but I do. But because Keegan can't handle not being the lead, I don't get to act. Let's just....Let's just go home."

Nick and I headed outside of the parking lot to my car, and I just so happened to see Keegan and Eva talking. And seeing his face made my snap, so I walked over to them with the intention of kicking Keegan's ass, but Nick quickly caught up to me and grabbed my arm to prevent me from doing so. That didn't stop me from yelling at Keegan.

"Are you happy?!" I said. "Because of you two, I'm not in the play anymore!"

"Wait, seriously?" Keegan asked. I thought Miss Conte was joking when she told me that last night. Sweet, I get to be Jacob again!"

"Munro, let's just go," Nick said, trying to pull me away, but I stayed where I was.

"Why couldn't you just accept the fact that you weren't the lead?!" I asked Keegan. "You couldn't handle it and you had to get me kicked out!"

"Please, I was doing you a favor," Keegan said. "You didn't want to be in it in the first place."

"That was before!" I said. "The play was all I had and you took it from me! Have you ever stopped to think about anyone but yourself? Everyone in my family has something that makes them special. I had acting, but you took that away because your ego is too big to not have the lead!"

Keegan snorted. "Whatever," he said before he and Eva walked away.

I hated them. I hated them more than I hated my parents. And that said something.

Nick pulled me to my car and we got in. I drove back to the apartment, trying to hold my anger in. However, this time, it wasn't that hard because I felt more hurt than angry.

I liked being in the play, even if being Jacob reminded me too much of my family. I still liked it. Laughlin was right. Acting was my thing.

When we got back home, Laughlin immediately noticed that something was wrong because he asked me about it as soon as I closed the door.

"You and Elliot don't have to come to the play tomorrow," I said. "I got kicked out."

       "What?" Laughlin asked. "Why?"

"Because of what Eva and Keegan did," I said. "Miss Conte saw it as me not showing up and she wouldn't even let me explain, so she kicked me out. Keegan's doing my part instead."

"Oh," Laughlin said. "Well, you got your wish, at least. You don't have to be in the pl--"

"Laughlin, you were right," I said.

       "About what?" he asked.

"About acting being my thing," I said. "You said boxing was yours, art was Nick's. Mine was acting. I like it a whole lot. It's what I want to do for the rest of high school and maybe even university. But Miss Conte probably won't let me back into the theater and if I try going for it in university, they might not take me in if they find out I 'skipped' out on a performance."

"I'll get Miss Conte to change her mind tomorrow," Nick said. "She has too. You were the better Jacob. Keegan may be a great actor, but he wasn't able to be Jacob as good as you. Miss Conte has to change her mind. I'll tell her what happened."

"Don't bother," I said. "She won't listen. I tried and if she won't listen to me, I doubt she'll listen to my little brother."

"Munro, you can't just give up," Nick said. "Acting is what you want to do. You have to try."

"I can't," I said. "There's no point in trying when Keegan already won."

       "Munro...." Nick began.

"I'm going to head to my room," I said. "Please don't bother me. I just want to be alone."

_______________

Aww, Munro actually likes acting. So, if any of you want to bury Keegan and Eva, ask Jerome and Nolan for help. *wink wink*

I think you'll like the next chapter though. Here's a small hint of what happens: Remember Taylor likes hacking into the school system. ;)
