Chapter 21

Today there was going to be a meeting for anyone who wanted to be in the next play and both Kamille and I were going to show up. Kamille said she liked acting as well, and it gave her an excuse not to go to her home.

Over the weekend, my family actually moved out of the apartment and into a bigger house because we really needed the room. There was only one extra room, but the kitchen and living room were a lot bigger. And it was closer to the school and Elliot's dad's gym where Laughlin worked.

The meeting didn't start until three, so Kamille and I were just hanging out by my locker. "Do you know what play we're doing?" I asked.

"I heard it might be Alice in Wonderland," Kamille said. "Aww, I can just imagine you as the Mad Hatter."

"Why the Mad Hatter?" I asked.

Kamille shrugged. "Don't know. It was the first character that popped into my head to be honest."

I smiled at her, something I have been doing a lot since me and Kamille starting dating. I was a lot happier with her now.

"You smiled again," she said. "Do I get another point?"

I rolled my eyes and wrapped my arms around her waist. "Come here," I said before pulling her closing to me and pressing my lips on her. She accepted the kiss, wrapping her arms around my neck.

"Aww," a voice suddenly came. I pulled away with a sigh and say both Taylor and Nick standing beside us.

"What do you want?" I asked.

"Nothing," Taylor said. "I just wanted to soak it in how cute you two are together."

"I was actually wondering if you're going to the meeting for the next play," Nick said.

       "Yeah, of course," I said.

"Whoa," Taylor said. "You're what? I thought you only had to do the one play."

"I did," I said. "But I like acting, so I will continue doing it."

"That's....shocking," Taylor said. "Well, I'm going to head home before the principal finds me. I may or may have not added in their schedule that there's an early dismissal tomorrow."

I snorted as Taylor quickly left the school. He was never going to stop hacking the school until they upgrade the system. He said he was trying to teach them a lesson.

"I'm going to head to the theater," Nick said. "Miss Conte loved the set designs I did and wants me to do it again because everyone else sucks. She didn't exactly say they suck, but I know that's what she meant. I'll see you there. Five minutes, by the way."

When he walked off, I looked at Kamille. "So, that gives us five minutes to...." I leaned down to kiss her, but she turned her head so I kissed her cheek, but the smile she gave me told me that she was just joking.

"I love seeing you so happy," she said. "You used to be this....cold person. No offense."

"None taken," I said. "I was because of what happened, but I don't know. Being friends with you changed that. So thank you, for making me happy again."

"You're welcome," she said, giving me a quick kiss. "We should probably start heading to the theater as well. Miss Conte doesn't like tardiness."

I smiled at her and wrapped my arm around her should, pulling her closer as we started walking to the theater. On our way there, we passed Keegan who glared at me. I winked at him to get him even more mad.

As soon as we walked into the theater, Miss Conte noticed us. "Munro, you do know that your punishment was only for the one play, right?" she asked.

"Oh, I know," I said. "But this time, I am here because I want to be here.

Miss Conte smiled at that. "Well, in that case, take a seat."

Kamille and I sat down on two of the chairs. When it was exactly three o'clock, Miss Conte began talking about the new play we were going to be doing. Kamille was right. It was Alice in Wonderland.

Since all of us were actually in the last play, we didn't have to audition again. That was Miss Conte's process. She already knew what each of us were capable of doing, so she didn't want to go through the audition process again.

She wrote down everyone's name and told us to give her a few minutes to decide who will do what part. When she finished, which didn't take that long, she began calling at who she had for what part.

I swear, Kamille was a psychic. I ended up being the Mad Hatter. That was going to be a fun part. And the best part was that Kamille was the March Hare, since there were only a few boys in the acting class so some girls had to have parts that were generally for males. We got to be in the same scene together.

We then did a read-through of the play with the parts we had. After doing so, the rehearsal time was almost over, so Miss Conte explained what would happen. There wasn't a single person who was in every scene, not even Alice because there was a small, medium, and tall Alice, so when Miss Conte was working on a scene with some people, we had to work on our scene somewhere else. That way, we would at least have something and all Miss Conte had to do was guide what we had.

I had to admit, I was excited to be in this play as well. I never thought I would like acting. I mean, it started off as a punishment, but I turned out to love it. So I definitely was thankful when I decided to release scorpions in the science lab that one day. It ended up turning my life around a bit.

And thinking about it, I wanted to turn the rest of my life around. The first thing I had to do was forgive my dad for what he did. My mom was a whole other story, but ever since my dad moved back, he has been trying. I didn't really accept his apology, but maybe it was time I should.
