Chapter 28

Today was Nick's birthday, so Dad, my grandma and grandpa, Grayson and Poppy and their kids, and Ginny were all coming over.

Ginny was the first to arrive. She came with her older brother and his family, but I knew how close Ginny and Nick were so she probably Grayson to come a bit earlier. Ginny and Nick even considered themselves best friends.

       It was so cute.

Ginny gave Nick a hug. "Happy birthday, Nick," she said. "I feel so young compared to you."

"That's because you're ten," Grayson said.

"Shut up, I'll be eleven in three days," Ginny said.

"You're too young to say shut up," Grayson said.

"Yeah, right," Ginny said. "I bet you were swearing by the time you were ten."

"I was not," Grayson said. "I was eight."

       "Seriously?" Poppy said. "Potty mouth."

       "Wanna kiss it, babe?"

       "Shut up," Poppy said.

"Ooh, I now know where Ginny got that from," Grayson said.

"Seriously?" Ginny asked. "I barely see you guys as it is."

Grayson threw his arm around his little sister. "I know. At least you can see us again on your birthday in three days. When you'll be eleven."

One of the triplets started crying, so Grayson took him out the stroller for three. At least, I was guessing it was one of the boys since he had a blue blanket, and only one of them had a pink one.

"How can you tell them apart?" I asked. "Alan and Nolan look the same. The only way I know who Orchid is is because of the clothes she's wearing."

"It's a parent intuition," Grayson said. "I don't know, we just know which one's which. Even Ryder gets confused."

"No," Ryder said. "That one is Nolan." He pointed to the one Grayson was holding.

"Actually, yeah, this is Nolan," Grayson said. "How'd you know?"

"He's my favorite," Ryder said. "Alan and Orchid are annoying."

"How can they be annoying?" Poppy asked. "They're only two months old, almost three."

Ryder shrugged. "They're just annoying. I like Nolan. Nolan's cool. He's my favorite."

"Ryder, you shouldn't have a favorite," Poppy said.

"Why not?" Ryder asked. "Daddy has a favorite. Me. I'm his favorite."

"He's not wrong," Grayson said and Poppy gave him a look. "What? He's arrogant like me. I just love his attitude."

Everyone headed over to the living room, and Elliot came out of the kitchen with some chips and soda. "Aww, the triplets," she said. "Can I hold one?"

"Hey, Elliot, remember your son?" I asked. "Aaron? Who's still a baby?"

"Yeah, I know," Elliot said, right as someone knocked on the door. "I'll get it." She answered the door and Dad, Grandpa, and Grandma walked in.

"Hold your applause!" Grandpa announced. "Nah, I'm kidding, applause for me, peasants."

Laughlin sighed. "It's nice to see you too, your majesty."
