Twelve – Angela
I strolled lightly through the forest, the golden sunrays of the afternoon sun pouring in small pools at my bare feet. Lightly brushing my long, soft, brown hair out of my face and over my shoulder, I flicked my black eyed gaze to the tree canopies, where small birds were flying around each other, conversing with quiet chirps and tweets. Their continuous music running in and out of my ears placed me immediately into a good mood—well more of a good than I was now. I wanted to find Jack and tell him how much I loved him. My plans were set. A wide smile crept across my face as the strikingly gorgeous image of Jack crossed my mind as he saw me for the first time in decades. Him in his black old fashioned outfit, his straight midnight coloured hair falling over his extremely pale skin and blowing slowly in the gentle wind. His slender, but very well built body positioned side on with one of his muscular arms behind him while the other bent in front of him gripping his Knife of Ebony. His facial expression, slightly twisted into a frown and his firm lips set in a straight line.
My smile faded slightly. Why would I imagine him so stern? So serious? He wasn’t like that anymore. Sure he was protective and he had every right to. Another image of Jack appeared to me. Him standing in front of me, his bottomless black eyes gazing down into mine, his mouth was wearing a half smile that made my heart pump for him more. I quickened my pace; wanting to get to Jack before anything bad could go wrong.
“Graw.”
My feet halted and my large, white, velvety wings flapped at my sides, my Halo glowing above my head. I turned slowly and swallowed. A large dog-like creature stood before me. As large as Jack’s Hellhound. But the complete opposite in colour. This animal was pure white with deathly, icy eyes—that were staring right at me. I breathed out. It was so beautiful. Soft, white fur, ice blue eyes, eyebrows that extended at least three metres into the air and trailed a few feet from its slender body. Large, strong paws with shinning silver claws sticking dangerously out of the toes. A long, thin tail swished behind it.
“Wow…” I whispered, utterly blown away by the amazing sight standing mightily in front of me. “You are so beautiful.”
It growled lowly, but it wasn’t a threat growl. It was more like an agreement. Not that I know how to talk to animals. I tilted my head to one side. This wasn’t an animal. Not with those features. Raising my hand up, I reached up to stroke its soft forehead, but it snarled and snapped its jaws at me. I gasped and snatched my hand back fast and backed away from the animal. It growled again and stepped towards me and snapped its mouth. I extended my wings and leapt off the ground. Beating my way up and out of reach of the dog-like animal, I soared over the forest and scanned the areas of where Jack might be, though I kept a close eye on where the white beast was. It was still standing in the same place, looking off into the forest next to it.
Breathing a deep breath in, I decided to land in the clearing of Lucy’s house. Glancing that nothing was about to jump out unexpectedly at me from behind, I raised my head to gaze at the large double story house. All my anger about Lisa’s kid being alive was gone in fact, my anger about Lisa was gone. She was dead—not that I favoured her being alive—and nothing could bring her back. So, I decided to leave her in the past, where she belonged, and look to the future and what I could make better. I wondered around the house a couple of times to see if Jack was anywhere inside or around it. Stopping at the back of the house again, I placed my hands on my hips. He was nowhere to be seen. Sighing, I was about to turn around, when I felt the sharp tip of a knife lightly touch my side. Warm breath breathed in my ear.
