Chapter Seventeen

Seventeen – Jack

I sat there in Josh’s wife’s house with Chad sitting next to me. Maria—who was sitting on the Sofa diagonal to us with Josh— smiled at us.

                “I’ve always wanted to meet at least one of you.” She told us cheerfully.

                Chad grinned. “Well, I, personally, have always wanted to meet you, beautiful.”

                I shook my head at his failed attempt to flirt with Josh’s wife. Josh glared at him.

                “You shut your face.” He muttered firmly.

                Chad put up his hands in surrender and Maria laughed.

                “Your brothers are so funny!’ She kissed Josh’s cheek. “Although, you don’t talk very much.” She looked at me.

                “Uh…” I really wasn’t in the mood for conversing, I was still pissed off by Pete finding out that Angela and I having an affair behind his back.

                “Oh, don’t worry!” Chad told Maria, wrapping his arm around my shoulders. “You should see his at home! God! You can’t shut him up!”

                “Chad.” I said.

                “He will go on and on about crap that you just don’t listen to.”

                “Chad.”

                “But I think most of the stuff us about his dau…I mean his family friend-niece thing…Lucy. Anyway, yeah, it’s really…”

                “Chad!” I interrupted.

                “Yeah, bro?”

                “I have two words to say to you.” I announced to him.

                “Really?” Chad said in a fake broken English accent. “What is it?”

                I heard Maria giggle and Josh sigh.

                “Okay, you listening carefully?” I asked him.

                “Yep.” Chad leaned closer to me.

                “Shut up!” I flicked his nose and he jerked his head back.

                “Ow! Dude! What was that for?”

                I shook my head and looked at Josh for help. He shrugged and wrapped his arms around his wife and leaned his head on hers. A pang of jealousy struck me. They reminded me of Angela and myself. I clenched my jaw and looked at Chad.

                “I think we should go.” I told him and he nodded.

                We got up and farewelled Josh and Maria and left before Lucy and Sam came out. Josh came out with us.

                “Listen,” he murmured, quietly, watching Maria walk back into the house. “Tonight, our brothers want to throw and massive party.”

                “Why?” I questioned. “Is it really necessary?”

                “Well, yeah, because they are only inviting women.”
