23 : Real Talk

That night, as I was trying to cuddle up into my blanket, I didn't realize I was at the edge of the bed. Just as it was supposed to be, I slipped off the edge. I landed with a thud, and since I scream silently, no one heard me. It all happened when no one was in my room.

"Fuuuuuu****" I screamed, although I'm not someone who swears.

I wasn't able to pull myself up to my bed. So I reached up for my bed, and found Niall's phone, from which I called up Zayn. He didn't even wait to pick up my call. He and Niall came in running, to find me lying on the floor like a lifeless creature in need of desperate help.

As they both helped my sit up, I could feel like my neck was not in its place. I could feel a sharp sense of pain behind me neck, just near my shoulder.

"Niall, is my head up on my neck? I can't feel it." I said.

"What rubbish?" He yelled. "Probably you just had a sprain from that fall."

"No, I feel like my neck has been detached." I said.

"What did she just say?" Zayn asked.

"That she can't feel her neck on top of her shoulder." Niall said, helping me lie down. "There. Now be careful. Oh wait, I'll stay here. Zayn, go have dinner and come back. I'll have dinner later."

"No I'll stay with her." Mom came in out of nowhere. "Boys, go finish your dinner."

"Fine." They said in unison and walked away. Mom came and sat beside me. She was gently stroking my hair. Looks like she's trying to tell me something.

"What is it ?" I whispered.

"Nothing honey, nothing." She said, still stroking my hair.

"Don't lie to me." I said.

"You know, your dad and me, I don't know how it happened between us." She started. "Can fire and water go together? No. That's how I thought we were. James and I were total opposites. But, look at how things turned out."

"Mom?" I started.

"I was in the woods, hunting for a savage vampire." She said.

"What?" I asked.

"Savage vampires. They're this group of vampires that feed on innocent humans' blood. It's our job to keep the humans safe, and hide any proofs of our identity." She said. "So, while I was just about to get one, James Lucado happened to come out of nowhere, and chased the vamp away. I was so pissed with your dad that day."

"Okay?"

"Every day after that, he used to follow me, wherever I went to hunt. And I, being a good and responsible vampire kept my limits, knew it was dangerous to be roaming around with an alpha male werewolf. But he just never gave up." She paused, sighed, and continued. "But, just as things couldn't get any worse, he proposed me. And I have to admit, I wanted to say yes, but I said no. A big NO."

"And?"

"He just never gave up. I kept reminding him that we're not meant to be together. Even back then, vamps and wolves were mortal enemies. There's not much of a change even now." She said. "I had this place in the woods, where I'd meditate. No one knows about such a place."

"Did he find out?"

"Yes, apparently he did. I don't even know how. Even my mom and dad never know about such a place. He followed me up till there, and guess what? He came with a wedding ring. I have never been so angry at anyone before that, but that day, he just made me yell like a mad lady."

"Whoa."

"We had this verbal counter happening for almost an hour. I was on fire, but he tried to keep his temper low. He just gave up, pulled me close to him, and made us have a long and affectionate kiss. I swear, the second his lips touched mine, it's as though he gained complete control over me. I could not let go of him. I tried to push him away, but my heart kept telling Good job Rachel, he's THE ONE."

"Calm down mom, go to sleep." I said.

"He's surely in a better place now. Ah, things happen for a reason. There are two things in this world that never comes with an invitation. Love and death. Two dangerous opposites, which can have the same side effects on you."

"Mom please. "

"If someone falls in love with me,  they'd better known that they're the luckiest person on the planet.  Because my standards are really high."  She said,  with a fake smile.

"Okay mom stop." I said. "You're scaring me."

"I'm just telling you the realities of life." She said.

"Please...just, stop." I said, as she leaned and kissed my forehead.

"How are you gonna sleep the whole night on one side?" Niall asked, who was now holding me close to him by my waist.

"I don't know...probably just like this." I said, trying to turn back to him. Ouch.

"Wait." He said, climbing over me, and lied down in front of me. "What were you saying?"

"What did you just do?" I asked, playfully slapping his cheek.

"Now you can see me the whole night." He said.

"Who said anything about you sleeping with me?" I asked.

"Please?" He asked, drawing me closer to him.

"No Horan, not happening." I said, trying to push him away.

"I'm not letting you go." He said, holding me by my shoulders.

"Okay fine, but keep your limits." I said.

"Sure." He said, cheerfully, and kissed my gently on my cheek. "What do you want me to call you?"

"What do you mean?" I asked, playing with his hair.

"You know, guys call their girls honey, sweetheart, darling-..."

"Please, just call me Audrey." I said. "All that is too mainstream."

"How about Audi?" He asked.

"Go to sleep Horan." I said, shutting his mouth with my palm, and he kept saying it despite that.

"I'm gonna call mom." I said.

"Ha, you're not loud enough." He said, sticking his tongue out playfully. "Watcha gonna do girl? Watcha gonna do?"

"If you're trying to make me feel better, sorry boy, it's just not happening. My neck isn't gonna get cured by your cheesy lines." I said.

"What what what?" He asked. "Slow down, and speak louder, I didn't hear that."

"I know you did. Now keep quiet." I said. 

"Can I kiss you, Audrey? You know-..."

"Good night Horan."

"Oh come on. Why you gotta be so rude?" He sang.

"Please don't ruin that song." I said.
