Chapter 15: Grand Theft Auto

"We need to talk." He said seriously and I stopped breathing for a second.

"What's wrong? What should we do?" He was quiet for a long time probably thinking about our next move.

"Do you have the information on everyone?"

"Tons." I smiled.

"Good. Do a little more on Backlash. Meet me tonight at the factory at 10:30." Then he hung up. Well someone isn't much of a talker. I hung up the phone and set it on the table in front of me. Ashley stared intently at me from across the room. She looked a little impressed.

"You kept it short."

"More like he kept it short." I laugh humorlessly.

"What happened?" She asked staring at me intently.

"I don't know; he didn't tell me. But something is wrong. I think we are going after Backlash tonight."

"He said that?"

"Not exactly," I pause, "more like he said to do more research into Backlash. Do we know enough? I mean the file on him his huge but what if there is something that we're not seeing."

"We have everything, I'm sure." Ashley pondered. "I triple checked each file myself. You'll be fine but that doesn't leave us much time."

"For what?"

"Training." She stood and walked around the table. "I doubt there will be much sneaking around this time. There will be a fight, especially with a man like Backlash. I'll take care of things in the shop and you train. I'll check up on you when I can." Without another word she left. Ok, then training it is. I stood up from the table and made my way to the training room. I quickly changed into my suit and tossed my regular clothes on to the bottom to my suit's container. The containers clicked back into their original positions and started I training.

Since I started all of this with Ashley I trained almost every day, even on my days off. I either stayed late or started at the wee early hours of the morning to practice. Ashley still said she'd never seen a power like mine and I'm not really sure how I feel about it. I mean yeah it's cool that I have this unique power that doesn't even have a name but it does have its disadvantages. The biggest one being that Ashley doesn't know exactly how to train me. So we do a little bit of everything.

Her favorite technique, in my opinion, was what she liked to call pressure. Which is a fancy way of saying kicking my ass until I can't take it anymore. The point of this technique is to push someone so far that their power has no choice to surface AKA dodge ball. It's absolutely horrible but even I have to admit that it does have results. I mean I went from nothing to throwing blue balls of energy at people. That says something.

Another training we just started was combat. Yeah you know, kicking and punching in people. I was excited about it at first, I mean it was about time that I learned to fight. But I never realized how much work it was...or how painful it would be. Thanks to Ashley I am now proud to say that I can throw a half way descent punch and give an excellent kick to the nuts. So I guess there's that.

But my favorite was what I call Accuracy. Ashley was positively sure that there is more to my power than throwing energy balls at people but until we figure out how much I am actually capable of mastering what I can do is extremely important. So what I do is pretty simple. I blast energy balls at targets. Yeah, I know it doesn't sound as exciting as Pressure or Combat but it's still important. You might think it sounds easy but its anything but. When I started out throwing a single ball winded me, it felt like I was running a marathon or throwing my life force at someone. It didn't feel good, that's sure. But it's the power I'm stuck with. Thanks to Ashley and brutal training, a could shoot a total of six times. But as soon as I threw that seventh it felt like I was dying. It literally caused me pain.
