Chapter 22: The Hole

"- Vauldingers are still unsure what to make of these new heroes, if we can even call them that. Despite the grand spectacle that occurred less than a week ago on the still under construction Harrison high way, both Rebel and Telex have been connected to the recent assault on the city morgue. Take a look:"

The clip changes to the night of the we "assaulted" the morgue. The shot focused on the drab cement building. The sound of hundreds of bullets ripping into the cement surface was deafening, even from across the street where they must have shot the clip. But the only thing you could really see was the blue energy glowing from the upper story windows, looking like something out of Syfy movie. The bullets stopped, but only for a brief moment before a black clad figure crashed through a window and not a second later, they flew out again with the crappy new Nebula in tow.

"Holy shit." I muttered under my breath.

"Right? Its' crazy." Gabe said in between bites of double chocolate donut. He wiped the crumbs off with the back of his hand, his eyes still glued on the screen.

The camera guy quickly moved to follow Ashley and new Nebula but he was way too slow and only caught quick glimpses of them through the sky. But he got paid off for his persistence and finally got his shot. New Nebula zoomed in from off camera and straight into Ashley. Ashley grabbed her out of the air, using the momentum of her opponent against her, and launched her straight toward the ground. There was a giant crash and Ashley clenched her fists and then zoomed towards the ground. The camera guy turned just in time to catch one corner of the building collapsing on itself making the whole structure became lop sided. The last thing we saw was Ashley touching down, abandoning new Nebula, and moving to support the building. They cut back to the news room.

"Rita, do we have any idea who this woman in black is? Is she someone viewers should recognize?" A blonde woman in early forties asks the camera.

"No Melonie, not that we know of. This super is someone new, but we're looking into- one moment the police press correspondent just released a prerecorded statement it should be in the studio now, Melonie."

"Oh, thank you Rita, we'll take a look and get back to you in moment. Would you please play the clip, now?" After a brief moment of delay the clip played:

"Vauldingers, thank you for tuning in." He cleared his throat and continued. "As you know the Mayor has asked that these supers: Telex, Rebel, and this unknown woman in black, be made a top priority. They may have helped to bring a criminal to justice, but their actions were done illegally. And according to eye witness testimony, they were likely responsible for the recent and violent attack on the morgue in which they clashed with police officers. These are not Superheroes, they are vigilantes and in no way associated with either the "The London Society" or "The Last Defense". If you have any have any idea into either the identity or location of these vigilantes please call the number currently flashing on your screen. Thank you and have a nice-"

"This is complete bullshit! Are you hearing this shit? Oh, yeah, they took down a criminal but they are really the bad guys," Gabe mocked, making his voice a pitch cheaper. "That girl in the Doll mask was big time! I mean you saw all those weapons just lying on the high way, there must have been thousands! And do they mention that? No no no, all they say is they're vigilantes, they attacked the police station! Wait not police station- a morgue! Who attacks a morgue, anyway! Who gives a shit! I bet they had a good reason."

A small warm feeling danced around my gut. Awww, well at least someone doesn't hate me and want me thrown in prison. That's something right?

"So, you like them?" I asked causally, making some coffee.
