Chapter 16: My New Chewbacca
"Are you ok?"
"I'm bleeding out, so no." He groaned holding his gloved hand to the wound in an attempt to stop bleeding.
"Even dying you're an asshole." I backed away from him and glanced down the ally. No cops in sight, but I could still hear the sirens. God we really need to get out of here. I knelt down next to Telex and looked over the belt on my thigh. I pulled the needle of morphine out of one of the smallest holders and remove the cap over the top. I went in to inject him but he caught my wrist in his bloody hand.
"I'll do it." I nodded and handed it to him. He stuck himself without hesitation then put the needle in his jacket pocket. Guess I wasn't getting that back. I dug through another pocket of the belt and found some bandages, a few big ones and a ton of little ones. "I need you to take off your jacket and tilt your head up." He did as I said and I moved in closer to get a better look. There was so much blood everywhere it was hard to pin point the actual wound. Ok, deep breath. I used one of the extra-large bandages to dab up the excess blood and found it when Telex flinched. "How bad is it?" He asked, his head turned the other way.
"I'm not a doctor."
"Just tell me what you see." He ordered and I took another, closer look.
"Well it's not huge, but it's bleeding a lot. It must have cut you deep."
"No bullet."
"Not that I see, it must have just cut through you. Lucky you, I don't think I could stomach digging a bullet out of someone." I laughed, starting to feel dizzy.
"You're doing fine, take a deep breath and put the bandage on." I nodded and did exactly what he said. I put one of extra-large bandages on the wound. He hissed when I put it on but doesn't move an inch. I put another one on just to make sure the thing is covered.
"Can you move?" He nodded. "Give me your hand." I helped him up and he threw his arm over my shoulders for support. We took a few steps down the cold deserted ally and he stumbled over his own feet. "Hey, you okay?"
"Fine, just...dizzy."
"The morphine?" I asked and he nodded. We walked together nearly the whole length of the ally before we heard sirens. We launched across the street and ducked down just as a cop car passed over the mouth of the ally. Bright light illuminated the ally sending a few rats running out of their hiding places. Thankfully none of them scurried by us. The light disappeared and the sound of the engine got further and further away. I took a deep breath and helped Telex up again. I leaned him against a wall and checked the street. No one in sight, and no cameras. This was our chance. I grabbed Telex and together we crossed the street. He stumbled a little at the end but I caught him before we could fall over. I'm not sure how much further we could make it before he passed out.
"Stay with me bucket head."
"I'm fine."
"Yeah sure." I dragged him down the street staying in the shadows, but if the cops were looking for us it was going to be nearly impossible to hide. Especially this close to the car accident. The place was swarmed with cops. It was only a matter of time before they found us and I doubt Telex could just teleport us away like last time. He was too out of it. I walked down the street lost in thought and Telex got quiet. We walked two blocks away from the blockade and it was clear Telex couldn't keep going. We were walking slow before but now we were down to limp. He stumbled more often and his head lolled from side to side. We stopped at a church and I leaned him against a wall.
"How far did we get?" He asked, completely out of breath. Did I overdo the morphine; god I hope not.
"Two and a half blocks, I think."
