Chapter 11: Identity Crisis

I ran on the roof top trying to get away from Echo as fast as I possibly could. God how could he have seen me anyway? I was a million miles away from him surrounded by darkness. Maybe his helmet had night vision or something? I shook my head and kept running. It doesn't matter I just need to get away. I quickly made a sharp left and flattened myself against the building. I closed my eyes and tried to relax but my breathing never showed. I was on the verge of having a panic attack. God how do superheroes deal with this crap on a daily basis. No wonder Ashley's always cranky. After a minuet I calmed down and peaked around my corner of safety. And there he was out on the roof with his back to me. I quickly ducked behind cover again.

I made to run some more, but for some reason I stopped. What the hell am I doing? Running isn't going to work sooner or later he's going to catch me and figure out who I am. Then Ashley will yell at me and I might get fired. He came back for me last time after I got hurt right? So he'll probably do it again. It will look pretty damn suspicious is I just disappear off the face of the planet. God, I need to go back but what about my hair it still....blue? I look at my reflection in the window. My hairs not blue, brown. Not some dye straight out of the box brown but my original hair color. My brown. Well that's convenient.

I take another peak around the corner and although Telex isn't looking straight at me he's definitely way too close for comfort. Shit. Okay no problem. I feel for my power like Ashley taught me but there's nothing there. No power, I'm empty. No, no, no, NO! God why does this crap always happen to me! I look around and find a long brick sitting on the side of the building. It must have fallen at some point not that I really cared. It was the exact distraction I needed. I pick up the brick weigh it in my hand then toss it ahead of me. It breaks something causing a huge noise. I flatten myself against the wall and pretend I'm a shadow. Telex pops into existence a good ten feet ahead of me then runs a head, gun drawn to find the source of the noise. He slows down when he gets far enough then looks from side to side, listening for anything suspicious. I wait until he makes a turn before quickly backtracking to the window I broke that now has a slightly bigger hole thanks to Telex. I slip through and step on to the metal platform, jog down the walkway, and make my way down the industrial style stair case.

It should have been hard to find where I was attacked if the mirrors where still in place, but since everything was destroyed I could see right through. I took the short cut and walked through the empty frames and found my purse. I stripped down to my bra and underwear and did the fastest change of my life. A minute later I was in my silver dress, trying to look distressed and damsel like. I laid on the floor, trying to look unconscious for a good ten minutes but nothing happened. Where the hell was Telex anyway? Probably still looking for me. I sighed and was about to turn on my phone when a crash echoed through, well Echo. I jumped up and held my breath, what the hell was that. Telex? I quietly dig through my purse praying to god that Ashley had thought to give me a weapon. Taking my suit out off the bag I started to dig. At the very bottom I found a very familiar Telescoping baton.

I pull it out to it's full length and slowly stalk forward, tip toeing around the broken glass. The entire room was totaled. But the maze got the worst of it. There wasn't much left standing. Soon enough I could see the VIP lounge that was surprisingly unscathed. But I wasn't alone after all. Three men dressed casually, not out for a night at the club, were snooping around collecting something. The plastic bags. A guy shouted as he held up one but was snapped at by his other two partners. Who were these guys and how the hell did they get in?

I slowly backed away from the scene. I know I should get in there and stop or question them but there are three of them and they probably have guns. Not to mention that the cops are probably on their way. At least now I know that Echo is just some kind of fancy drug front. That counts for something. I slowly back away from the men and start retreating into what used to be the maze of the club.
