I walked off into the rain to Matias' house. My letterman jacket was soaking wet, black jeggings were drenched, and white Vans completely ruined, but I didn't care. I continued down the sidewalk, until I found his house. I walked up the stone steps to the door and rang the doorbell. I'd never felt this way before, feeling as if I could do anything. I was so scared, yet so calm at the same time. I stood patiently waiting for the door to open. When the door opened Caleb came out. He looked at me and his usual smiling face turned into worry. He looked similar to Matias, he had dark brown side-swept hair and beautiful brown eyes like him, but their personalities were polar opposite.
"Rowan, what happened to you? You're soaking wet, come inside," He told me. I shook my head no and said,
"I'll explain later, and I can't right now. Is Matias home?"
"He's playing in the soccer game tonight at the school." A smile crept on his face.
"Are you going to tell him?" He asked. I smiled and looked at the ground.
"Yeah" I replied looking back up at him. Caleb looked at his phone and then said,
"If you run you can probably make it right before it ends,"
"Thanks," I said as I sprinted off into the rain. My legs pounded against the slippery sidewalk. I let down my wet hair out of its ponytail and ran my hands through it freely. It was raining so hard I could barely see my own hand in front of my face. After a while of running, I began to see a stadium in the distance. As I grew nearer I could see it was the school's soccer field, and the game was almost over. I ran past the ticket booth and through the gate. I looked around the field before I spotted him, Matias, number two, and he was going towards the goal! I stood right on the edge of the sideline and cheered him on,
"Go Matias! You got this!" He dribbled past the defender and was now one-on-one with the goalie. There were three seconds left on the clock. He took one more step, before he shot the ball, it flew past the goalie and into the top right corner! I jumped up and ran onto the field as the game ended.
"Matias! Matias!" I called for him waving my arms around. He turned around and saw me running towards him in the rain, he smiled. I ran into his arms and gave him a hug.
"Matias, I need to tell you something," I said.
"OK, but first I need to do this," Matias said. Then he wrapped his hand around my waist pulling me as close and could to him, then took his other hand and held my face pulling me in for a kiss. My heart was beating out of my chest. We could hear the other boys whistling and saying,
"Yeah, Matias!" We both just smiled into the kiss. Once we pulled away, I looked into his deep brown eyes and time stopped. It was like we were the only ones here on the field in the pouring rain.
"Oh, what were you gonna tell me?" He asked still holding me close to him. I could feel his heartbeat beating in sync with mine.
"Oh...ummm...you're hair's wet," I laughed ruffling his hair. He laughed and backed up to look at my clothes.
"Rowan, your clothes are ruined!"
"It's OK-"
"We gotta get you home to change!" Matias told me smirking.
"But you can't drive yet," I said puzzled. He took a look in my eyes, swiftly picked me in bridal style, and started running off the field.
"Matias, what are you doing?!?!" I squealed laughing, wrapping my arms around neck. "And what about your stuff?!?!"
"I'll get it tomorrow, you're more important." He told me, giving me another kiss on lips. He carried out of school and onto grass, still running to get me to my house.
"Can you stay for the night?" I asked him, nuzzling my face into his neck.
"I thought you'd never ask," he said smiling.
"You're very strong," I blurt out. When I realized what I said, I covered my mouth with my hand. He smirked.
"Thanks, you look beautiful with your hair down," he grinned. "You should wear it down more often." I blushed and pecked him on the cheek. Matias face was slowly turning red. In the distance I could see my house, and on the porch was Calypso and Dominic. They were standing by the door. Matias pointed his chin at them and said,
"So you both told us?" I nodded smiling. Calypso turned around and pointed to us. Dominic squinted and laughed,
"Go Matias!"
Matias stared at the ground and blushed hard. When we finally got to the porch Matias stopped running.
"You can put me down now," I giggled. He looked at me in awe and gasped.
"No we need to get cleaned up," He ordered with a stern face. "I'm gonna put you down inside and get your pajamas to change into."
"OK," I said. He nodded. Dominic and Calypso laughing at how protective Matias was being. I looked at Calypso and mouthed 'I love him'. She smiled and mouthed back 'Dominic is perfect for me. He even saw my scars!' I gasped. 'I guess you too are meant to be, just like Matias and I.' I opened the door, while in Matias arms and he brought me in. Tonight was going to be perfect.
