MASON

I groaned, my palms clutched my forehead. I cursed myself for drinking to much, I felt like my brain could explode any moment. I shifted wanting to find my comfortable bed, instead I was met by a hard surface.

Wait where was it?

Did I not come home?

Fluttering my eyes open, I looked around my surrounding. A groan left my lips when I realised I was laying on the ground in my living room, I could not remember how I ended up here. Moreover, where was Stephanie?

"It's good your awake." My head snapped towards the coach, Aidan sat there a can of alcohol in his hand making my eyebrows scrunch in confusion.
"Who drinks early in the morning?" I asked, forcing myself off the ground. Stumbling my way towards him, still having an headache from the hang over.

"A man who has lost his wife, you should drink as well." He said handing me a can, I narrowed my eyes and placed the can back on the table. Had Chloe left him? Why?
I could not remember the last time I had seen the argue, he was utterly whipped over his wife.

"Stop beating around the bush and speak clearly. I am currently not in the state to understand your riddles." I rolled my eyes and laid my head back. Where was Stephanie and her homemade lemon juice, she always made it for me before when I'd have a hang over. Shaking that thought away I looked down at my empty finger, I felt naked and empty. Was it not me just yesterday who felt like I was being suffocated.

"Chloe left. She left me a letter explaining how she could not handle the Mafia life, she could not handle me. She wanted a normal life, where you would work nine am to five pm, where you would come home and go out without the fear of dying." I sympathised with him, I knew Chloe had struggled to keep up with this life. I assumed she would keep trying, I guess not.

Aidan was opposite to me, he enjoyed being called whipped and locked up. Where as I felt like my whole world was taken from me, at times I would wonder if this was just a facade he put on or if he actually enjoyed feeling like a dog where his wife would hold him down with a leash.

"Well Aidan, I would say you are lucky. Your still young, maybe Chloe was not meant for you. No point crying over her, she's gone." I shrugged, I seriously believed god had given him mercy. He no longer had to let his wife know about his whereabouts or even fear about enemies getting to his wife.

"You don't get it do you. How ignorant can you be, the reason your here is because of Stephanie. She made sure you were able to balance yourself, in other words with out her you would have proven your father right." He screamed standing up, I stood up and faced him angrily. Proved my father right.

"Lower your voice Aidan, the position I am in now is all me. I worked day and night, I attended meetings and made sure everything ran smoothly." I yelled, facing him ready to attack.
"We will see if you can now?" I narrowed my eyes in confusion what had he meant by that.

"What do you mean?" I asked, confused. Had something happened which I could not remember, I really wished this hangover would just disappear.
"Stephanie is gone, you threw the divorce papers at her face. It's laying there for you, signed." My head snapped towards the bar counter he was pointing at, I shook my head in denial and rushed towards it and flipped the pages until I stopped where her signature was done.

"Fuck." I whispered, the faint memory of yesterday returned. I had told her what I should have never said, I had called her names which I have never said before. She was gone.

I should be happy, why was i not?

I should party, why did I want to send a search party out for her?

"Chloe mentioned to deliver her divorce papers to her parents house." Aidan spoke from behind, I turned around and narrowed my eyes.
"Do you think, they left together?" I asked, Aidan sighed and nodded his head.

"There no other way, Chloe could not have made a big decision on her own. She saw Stephanie leaving and decided it would be the best if she did too. I mean they were close." Aidan said which made sense, he was completing the blank spaces and linking two and two together.

"Get our men together, we need to do a search party." I stated, I stared at Aidan who stood there not moving. For a second I wanted to repeat myself but Aidan's next words silenced me.

"Why? Did you not want Stephanie gone from you life...look she's gone. Far away, out of your reach. They say you can't have both fun and love, you wanted fun and you lost love." Was this not what I wanted, then why did everything inside of me wanted to find Stephanie, grab her and tie her to our bed. Make sure she could not leave, and make her all mine.

I did not respond, instead I turned around and walked away. The divorce papers clutched in my hand.

"Admit it Mason, you've realised what you have lost. When it is no longer in your life you realise it's worth, the difference between you and me. You let her go, and I didn't." I heard Aidan say behind me, my eyes clouded in anger as I pulled my gun and aim for his shoulder before pulling the trigger.

I watched him groan in pain before clutching his bloodied shoulder, a smirk appeared on his lips.

"I got my answer." Was all he said, I did not bother to respond. I turned my back once again and made my way to my office, my eyes looked back at my empty finger and searched my pocket till I found the metal band.
