Nathan's POV
I helped Sam down off the bed and led her out into the waiting room. I felt the need to reassure her, so I said, "I don't know what he wants, but I will try and make it quick so I can get back to you."
She looked at me gratefully, and smiled. I couldn't help but touch my lips to her forehead. She looked stunned, but not angry. I said, "After this, how 'bout I treat you to lunch. I did hit you with my car and all."
She smiled and said, "I think that would be wonderful, you are so kind."
I laughed, "It's what I do."
I turned and walked back to Dr. Leonard. I may have lied when I told her I had no idea what he wanted. Nosy old fart.
"I hate to leave her Leo, so we better make it quick," I said.
"Of course," he replied, then asked, "Does she know?"
"No, and I would like to keep it that way. She isn't mine, I think she's meant to be Asher's."
"So you know she is going to make it?" The doctor asked.
I sighed, "Yes, if she wasn't going to make it, I would have told her by now. I think she will be able to ease his 'Survivor's guilt'. Especially if he knows I sent her . . . I think she actually may have some of her own."
But I'm going to miss this girl.
"I think you're right Nathan, but what if they don't connect when she leaves?"
"Leo," I replied, "I will get those two together if it kills me."
"Oh the irony," he said looking sad. I knew what he meant, but I wasn't going to let him bring me down. I had to be happy for Sam. She didn't need anymore sadness.
"Shut up." I had Sam waiting for me and I couldn't make her wait long. "I have to get back to her."
"Alright . . . I'll be watching when she wakes up." He said.
I smirked, "I know you will you nosy old geezer. Bye Leo."
He laughed, "Bye Nathan."
I turned and walked back to Sam. Whether she knew it or not, she was the one for Asher.
