Samantha's POV

I watched the doctor approach me. He hesitated by my bedside.

"May I?" He asked, gesturing to my casted arm and the rest of my numerous injuries.

"Be my guest." I replied. Anything to get out of here. It's funny how much time I've spent in hospitals recently . . . I don't want to spend any more time in a hospital for a long time.

"Your bruises have healed nicely, but you are going to be quite sore when the medication wears off. You have two broken ribs, a broken arm, and your leg had a compound fracture. You are definitely going to want to take it easy for a long time. And ice never hurts. It's going to take about three to four months to heal up."

He paused to look at me. I was actually quite shocked. I didn't realize that I was this hurt, and by the look on Asher's face, neither did he. He actually kind of looked terrified to touch me.

"You know, I've never experienced anything quite like you in all my years on this job." The doctor said.

I was puzzled. "What do you mean?"

"Well, you suffered from somewhat severe head trauma. None of the doctors even thought you would make it. You've been comatose since before you even got here. The paramedics, ER docs, and your boyfriend here thought you were dead because of all the blood. Not only all that, but you flatlined. You were deemed clinically dead for over five minutes . . . But seemingly at no cost to you. You should have lasting brain damage from lack of oxygen to the brain. But then again, you should be dead from your injuries alone. You are a living miracle."

Well that is a drastic change from how I felt before any of this happened. I felt I didn't even deserve to live.

"Well sir, I'll tell you my secret," I said with a smirk.

He raised an eyebrow, and I felt Asher's questioning gaze as well.

"As a great author once wrote, 'Death cannot stop true love, all it can do is delay it for a while'."

And I smiled.
