Survival.....

Chapter 6: Morning

I woke to the birds chirping and the sun shining in my face.

I sat up and looked around.

Then yelled, "WE MADE IT THROUGH THE NIGHT!!"

Katy got startled awake and almost fell off the branch.

I did a happy dance and we both laughed.

We grabbed our duffels and climbed down the tree.

We each took sips of water and washed our faces and hands.

I looked at my clothes.

My jeans were torn at the knee and my bright white shirt was now a grayish white with some of the sparkles missing.

I took off my earrings and put them in my duffel so one doesn't get lost.

I looked at Kaitlyn.

Her light blue shirt and jeans were now a gray-blue and her jeans were torn and dirty also.

She wasn't wearing earrings and her hair was messy.

I guessed mine was too.

I took my hairbrush out of my bag and brushed my hair and Katy got hers out too.

"Ugh I'm starving!" I complained.

"Me too," said Katy.

We both groaned.

"Wait a minute!" I said remembering something.

I dug through my bag and pulled out the two king size twix bars.

"JULIA! How could you forget you had the candy of the gods at your fingertips!!!!!"

Katy yelled.

I laughed.

"Well it's not like I just had to sleep in a tree or anything."

We both laughed as we each ate a twix bar.

We ate them slowly so we could treasure each bite.

"The problem is Julia, we can't survive on just a twix bar."

"Don't remind me," I sighed.

Katy got up and walked over to the stream to wash chocolate off her hands.

"Hey Katy," I said.

"Yea?"

"Where do you think the others kids are?" I asked.

She thought for a moment.

"Well I think some of them are still alive...and maybe in the same situation as we are...looking for food and well....trying to-"

"Survive," I finished for her.

"Yea," she said.

"Well lets get on with this surviving then," I said standing up and washing the chocolate off my hands in the stream.

Katy and I grabbed our duffels and we walked into the woods with no idea what we were going to do next.....
