Chapter 15: The Puppy

      We walked into the forest looking for food and firewood. Katy brought over a little pile of sticks and put them into the duffel Janette was carrying. I walked over to some pretty flowers and sniffed them. It was a whole big patch of them and I went smelling them all. I stood up and walked back to the place I last saw Kaitlyn and Janette, but when I got there they were....gone. "Oh no," I mumbled. 'We could'nt have gotten seperated! Ugh! Why did this have to happen to me....' I thought to myself. I decided to walk straight....they could'nt have gotten far right? "KAITLYN!....JANETTE!" I yelled for them....No answer...

                                                                       KATY P.O.V

      We walked into the forest and I looked for firewood. I collected some sticks and brought them over to Janette. She put them into the duffel. We kept on walking straight. After about ten minutes I said," Hey Julia...." I looked over and she wasn't there. "I turned around.."Julia?..." She wasn't there. "Janette were's Julia," I asked frantically. "Huh...oh I thought she was following us....," she said. "We have to go back for her!" I said. "We must of gotten seperated somehow," I said. Then we started walking back the way we came....

                                                                    JULIA P.O.V

      'Were are they...' I thought. "Maybe they turned and went a different way," I said to myself. So I turned right...deeper into the forest. I walked for about five minutes and still couldn't find them. I sat down on a tree stump and sighed. I sat there for about two minutes then..Crack...I heard a twig snap behind me. I jumped up and spun around...but nothing was there.."huh....who's there?" I looked around and heard a small whimper from a plant with large leaves. I walked ever so slowly over to the plant and lifted up one of the leaves by the ground. I gasped...there stood a skinny little german shepherd puppy. It was shaking and whining. "Awww come here baby...," I said and crouched down on the ground. I held out my arms and it cautiously stood up. One step...two step....three step..and then it got to me. I reached out my hand and it pulled back a little but let me pet its small head. It started wagging it's tail and climbed into my lap knocking me over and licking my face. I laughed "Hey...stop...that...," I said in between giggles. I sat up and the puppy stood there with it's ears perked up and it's tail wagging. "Do you want to stay with me?" I asked and he barked. "Ok..well lets go find my friends...they're really nice..you'll like them." So I stood up and the puppy followed me through the forest. Suddenly my puppy stopped and looked alert. I heard rustling in the trees beside us....Then burst out Kaitlyn. "Julia!!!!!!!!!!!!" She screamed and tackled me in a hug. "Kaitlyn!" I screamed and hugged her back. Janette came jogging to where we were. "Julia...where were you!" Kailyn and I stood up and I hugged Janette. "I'll tell you when we get home," I said. That's all I really wanted...was to go home...well to the cave. I heard Katy gasp behind me. I looked around and saw she was staring at the puppy. "Oh yeah guys look! I found a puppy..or more..he found me." "Awwwwwwwwwww," said Katy and Janette. They knelt on the ground and started petting my puppy who wagged his tail and licked their faces. We walked back to the way we came and came to the waterfall. "Home!!!!!" I screamed and fell on my knees. "Finally!" Katy and Janette laughed and we walked to the tree. "Wait a minute," I said. "How is my puppy going to get over there," I said. We all thought. "I have no idea...," said Katy. "I have an idea!" Said Janette. "How about we put him in the duffel?" She said. "Okay," I said. "We can try," Kaitlyn shrugged. So we took out the firewood and put the puppy in the duffel. I put it over my shoulder and climbed the tree. I crawled slowly across the branch and dropped down onto the ledge. "We made it!" I said to my puppy as I let him out of the bag. "Okay now come back and we will get the firewood," said Janette. I crawled back over and we loaded up the firewood. Katy, Janette, and I then climbed up the tree and over to the ledge. We all walked inside and added wood to the fire that after two hours was almost out. I blew on it and got it started again. We sat down and cooked salmon over the fire while I got water in the coconut shell for my puppy. "What should we name him...," I asked setting down the water for my puppy which he gratefully accepted. "How about....Pineapple!" Said Katy and I laughed. "I dont think so,"I said. We kept on thinking of names for a while and ate salmon which I shared with my nameless pup. We laughed and joked and thought. It was like we were living a normal life.
