You don't know the half of the abuse
We don't deal with outsiders very well
They say newcomers have a certain smell
Yeah, I trust issues, not to mention
They say they can smell your intentions
You're lovin' on the freakshow sitting next to you
You'll have some weird people sitting next to you

Ellie:

"I'm not sure how I feel about this whole pack thing." I tell Jake, "I'm a lone wolf!"

"Wolves die when they're alone." Jake corrects me.

"But see here's the thing, I'm at the bottom of the totem pole right now in the pack. I'm not down with that." I tell him, "I'm not even technically a wolf, you know? I could just hang out with you guys but not really be part of the pack. I could be an honorary wolf."

Jake just stares at me and gives me a "wtf" look, "You're a part of the pack and you'll learn to live with it. It gets easier with time. Besides, you're my imprint, they have to respect you."

"What's up with that imprinting stuff? Have I imprinted yet? What if you're not my imprint?" I ask curiously.

"First off all, I'm your imprint. Second, I'm pretty sure your wolf realized that when you woke up, you kept staring at me the same way I stared at you when I imprinted." He explains.

Jake has been hella patient.
God bless that man.

"Okay so we're soulmates, like this is it?" I ask.

"Um yeah. It should be." He says awkwardly.

"Huh." I say absentmindedly. I'm not trying to be rude or anything, I'm just not sure how to wrap my mind around all of this. It's not bad, just different.

"Ready to go?" Jake asks, interrupting my thoughts.

"No." I tell him.

"It's time." He tells me firmly.

I frown but follow him to the car. It's my first time going on patrol. We're driving to Sam's house first to listen to what Sam has to say.

Sam has been really gentle with the whole phasing thing. He told me that we would go at my pace with patrol and being part of the pack- that there was no rush for me to be one of them. Jake has been the one that's been pushing me. He's the only reason why I'm starting patrol 3 weeks after I first phased. I haven't phased that much but I think I've got it down. I can't phase mid-air or instantaneously like Jake can but it doesn't hurt as much anymore.

For once in my life, I'm silent; not really knowing what to say to Jake. He's not the alpha but he is rightfully. I'm afraid that we're going to get on each other's nerves if we can read each other's thoughts. Jake always tries to be bossy and I always ignore him which pisses him off and then we fight. That's how it was before we started dating. Even though we were best friends, we still managed to make each other mad.

Jake:

I look over at my baby. Her eyebrows are pushed together and she has a frown on her face. She looks like she's deep in thought- something that she's been doing a lot lately.
