Seventeen

4) Protective Brothers & disappointment.

~Lily's POV~

When we get back to Drew and where we've left all our stuff, Levi turns to face me.

"Lily, What have I told you about him?" He sighs "Seriously he's not to be trusted"

I stand offend that he would say that and Soph and Drew stay quiet.

"I'm fine Levi seriously, I'm old enough to look after myself!" I stalk over to the beach stores where Nate and Austin are getting the boards without another word to him. Soph, Levi ad Drew stay together waiting for us to return with the boards, I really hoped today was going to be fun, instead all its been so far is lectures.

~Drews POV~

I watched Lily walk away from Levi looking very frustrated. I wanted to stop the argument but I didn't want to make it any worse either. I should have gone after her, but I also don't want to have to explain myself to Levi as well. I watched her collect two boards under each arm, Nate and Austin doing the same, as they slowly made there way towards us. Levi was still scowling at Jason who is sitting on a lifeguard tower probably doing some practice training. As much as I want to believe Lily when she says he's her friend, I can't help but side with Levi on the fact that I don't trust him.

When the three of them reach us, Lily walks over and I think she's going to hand me the second board in her hand. However she give it to Sophia which I completely understand. Feeling stupid and a little disappointed I take a board from Nate and Levi takes Austin's other one.

"Okay, you guys ready?" Asks Lily trying to sound enthusiastic, probably trying to avoid another argument but I can she's masking some of her annoyance. We all take turns going to get changed in the changing rooms into our swim wear. Once we have all returned and are ready we all follow Lily and Sophia to the water and carefully watch what they do.

"I think we should go in teams" Says Sophia "It'll be easier, I'll take Levi and Nate and Lil you can take Drew and Austin?"

"Okay" Lily says happily I hoped that it was the fact she was working with me when I actually know its because she wont have to spend time with her brother.

Sophia takes Nate and Levi a bit further up the beach giving us some space to practice separately.

"Right" Says Lily "You've got to get on the board like this" she demonstrates kneeing down effortlessly. Austin manages to do it first time whereas I fall into the water on the first attempt feeling embarrassed yet excited. Once Lily shows me a few more times, I'm sitting steadily on the board, and we are ready for her to show us the next step. She glides her hands through the water moving against the current. We both try it and to my surprise, its Austin that falls off this time. Lily and I look at each other laughing as two seconds before Austin had claimed he was a 'Natural'.

"Wow you guys are getting really good at this!" She says beaming at us both

"I'm exhausted" Complained Austin "I don't know how you can do this all day!"

We all laugh, and Lily attempts to show us how to ride a wave standing up. We are quite far out now, and the waves are strong, and surfing is a lot harder than it looks. Austin and I both fail several times when trying to stand up and in the end Austin Is swiftly surfing back to shore on his knees because he needed a break. We both sat and watched to make sure he made it safely to shore and saw him head up to the small Café on the edge of the beach.

"I really want to be able to do this!" I said Splashing Lily with water in a playful annoyance.

"Hey" She replies splashing me back You'll get there"

We try for around half an hour longer and on my last attempt I stand almost as effortlessly as Lily and ride on a huge wave. Lily is sitting on her board clapping and cheering at me, then she stands to join me. I turn my board to face her and jump grabbing her and throwing us both in the water. When we both surface, she splashes at me.

"Why would you do that?" She laughs "I was trying to surf!"

"You've got to fall off at least once Lil" I laugh "Lily I mean"

"No call me Lil" She holds onto my shoulders for support just looking at me, and I feel me heart beat accelerate. The way the sun is shining off her golden hair and her smile, and her eyes... That's Levi's sister I reminded myself, its Levi's sister. My smile faded and so did hers. But I held her tight, we drifted for a while when all of a sudden someone came rushing on another board towards us.

"Hey Lily?" Jason Asked and  we broke apart "I saw you both fall off your boards and when I couldn't see you get back on them I assumed something had happened, but if I'm interrupting something then I can just..."

"No, No not interrupting we were just going through some rescuing techniques" Lily did not make eye contact with me, and a flash of disappointment went through me. Does she like this guy?

I followed Lily and Jason who collected our surf boards which had drifted slightly to shore, we all swam back and I watched as Jason and Lily walked off talking leaving me completely behind.
