“Aaron this crap doesn’t make any sense,” I complained. Aaron was deep in thought, reading a section about how Flames minds are somehow connected. “If we’re supposed to read each others’ minds, it’s not working.”

“I think… I think it builds up,” he looked at me like I’d know what he was talking about.

“What builds up?” I growled, crossing my arms.

“Wow, you get annoyed easily. I think all of this extra mind reading and dream stuff builds up as our relationship grows.”

“Our relationship is planning on growing?” I said, giving him a sideways look.

“I know you want it to,” he said without missing a beat. He shrugged at my glare and stood up from the bed, stretching and groaning.

“Yeah, right,” I said, lying back and yawning. I smiled as I caught a whiff of Aaron’s bed.

“So we might want to start thinking about what to do with our lives now that you’re a vampire and all,” he said crossing his arms and looking down at me. I groaned loudly as a headache ripped through my skull.

“God damn it,” I hissed, clutching at my head. Suddenly, my throat felt like a knife was slicing into it. I gripped at it and pushed away Aaron’s soothing hand from my shoulder. I was fine; I just needed some… liquid. I swallowed rapidly and blinked as my eyes started to water from the pain.

“Can I have some water?” I asked, starting to cough. Before I could take another breath there was a small paper cup of water right in my face.

“Here you go.”

“Thanks,” I mumbled, taking it and drinking it all in one sip. My coughing stopped and the pain was reduced enough for my eyes to stop watering.

“You really need some fresh blood,” Aaron said, taking the cup back and bringing it to the small trash can in the corner.

“Not happening,” I said stubbornly, lying back on the bed again.

“You’ll die eventually, you know,” he said once he came back. He pushed my legs aside and sat on the bed next to me. I sighed like a great weight had been lifted from my shoulders, and it didn’t take me long to realize it was because of the fact Aaron’s leg was touching mine. I closed my eyes, trying to take in the weirdness of the situation. After a few seconds of silence I felt my body relax completely for the first time in weeks. I smiled and let myself enjoy the peace.

“GET UP!” Tanya screeched as she burst into the room with a loud bang. I jolted upright and Aaron jumped to his feet. Tanya had already made her way into the closet and started pulling clothes off of the shelves.

“What is it!?” Aaron said quickly, walking to the closet. I followed behind him, trying to ignore the burning in my throat.

“The Master is back from the war! He wants to meet with you two in ten minutes. You have to get ready! NOW!” she yelled, throwing clothes at Aaron and me.

“Why do we have to wear somewhat nice clothes? Are we trying to impress him now or something?” I asked, looking at the clothes with disgust.

“Look, you two were taken by him for reasons unknown to me. All I know is most of his captors are usually people that threaten his power, so they are kept in the dungeons and killed within two to three days. You are the only lucky ones. Don’t disappoint him,” Tanya said sternly. I nodded my head and swallowed the sick feeling growing in my stomach. Tanya turned and walked quickly out of the room. Aaron and I stood there silently for a few seconds, just taking what she said in.
