You know that deep sleep you're in, where you wake up with blanket creases all over your arm and a small amount of drool on your pillow? Yeah, you know what I'm talking about. That was currently me, waking up in the morning. Only I woke up in bed alone, without my man and without a snoring pup beside me. I was dazed and confused to say the least. Usually on a normal morning when I don't wake up next to josh, Nala would be the one greeting me first with her precious sloppy doggy kisses.
I freshened up before heading downstairs, because even though Josh and I have lived together for a little over a year now I still feel nervous around him and I always want to look my best.
The house was quiet, too quiet. I looked in the backyard, the living room, the family room, and the guest bedroom but found nothing I was looking for. Deciding that breakfast would be a good idea I started cooking eggs, bacon, and chocolate chip pancakes which were Josh's favorite. I was finishing up the last bit of pancakes when I heard them before I saw them.
Napa's cute, but very loud breathing was the first thing I heard as soon as the front door opened. "Morning sweetheart. Wow something smells great in here" A grinning Josh came in to view and with three long strides reached me, and with a brief kiss on my lips went to grab coffee. Trailing his steps was a very tired looking Nala, breathing hard with her tongue out looking cute as ever.
Tossing my head back I started to laugh "Babe, what did you do to poor Nala?" He turned towards me, winked and started to laugh as well.
"We went for a brief walk around the neighborhood. About 10 minutes in she figured she had had enough and just laid down on the sidewalk refusing to move. I had to carry her up until we reached the front yard"
"Poor baby, you need to take it easy on her" Josh grinned and kissed me on the cheek. Finishing up the pancakes, Josh started to plate our breakfast.
"Alex called while I was out with Nala, he invited us for dinner at their house tonight, said they really needed to see us. Is that something you feel like doing?" He asked me while grabbing both our plates and setting them down on the table before sitting down.
"Of course! We haven't seen them together in a while. Did he tell you what is was about?"
"No, just that they would really like it if we would be able to go"
"I don't have any pending work I have to do today, so I'm free. What about you mister famous? No soccer today?" Josh got this sparkle in his eye whenever he talked about soccer, it was his life long dream to become pro and he had finally been able to do it. I was immensely proud of him, along with both of his parents and the millions of sport fans out there. He was one of the best, and played along David Beckham a few years back. From what Ive seen they still keep in touch.
Smiling he shook his head "Not today. I had some office work for your dad but I finished that this morning when you were sleeping, so I'm all yours" he winked at me.
Deciding to tease him I said, "Ugh oh great, I get to see your face all day. What a bore." Grinning he threw his napkin at me. "Shut it, you love me".
I shrugged my shoulders as if to say whatever. He well damn knew he owned my heart. It had been a rocky few years but we were finally right on track. I still hadn't told him my secret and it ate at me with guilt. One day I would be able to tell him. Just not now, soon, or if I could help it never.
Josh waited patiently on me so I could finish my breakfast. Nala, not so silently snoring by both of our feet. That walk had really done a number on her. Finishing up Josh loaded the dishwasher claiming that I would not lift a finger since I had cooked him a deliciously made meal.
