1 week later

"Are you almost done?" Michelle asked from the other side of the door.

"Yes." I laughed. I slowly opened the door. Michelle's eyes widened as she examined me.

"Oh my gosh. "She gasped.

"What? Is it that bad?" I asked biting my lip.

'Not at all! Oh my gosh you are beautiful!" Michelle grabbed my arm and dragged me over in front of her mirror. I gasped at the person staring back at me. Oh my....

Michelle and me had become sisters over the past week. No one except me, her, and Andrew knew. And hopefully it would stay that way. Michelle had invited (more like made me) come to a masquerade ball with her. It was the day of the ball and we were getting ready now.

The diamonds shone bright against the golden yellow dress. I felt like Belle herself. It hugged me perfectly and brought out all my curves. My hair was curled around my shoulders and my eyes gleamed with happiness. This was amazing! Without thinking I wrapped my arms around Michelle.

"Thank you so much." I began to tear up. I had never been so happy before.

"Hey hey! Your going to ruin your makeup." She laughed and I smiled through my tears, wiping them away.

"Come on! It's time."

Music poured out of the room. I could barely hear the music over the chatter of the people. My palms became sweaty.

"Michelle....I'm not so sure..."

"Too late to turn back now."

Ugh. She was right. It was way to late.

"Calm down." She laughed at me. "You look breath taking. You'll be fine."

With those words we walked into the ballroom. People were everywhere and everyone was in a mask. I spun around to walk back out and Michelle's hand grabbed my arm and turned me back around.  She gave me a shove into the crowd and I walked amongst the rich. I had never been to nervous in all my life. I was scared I would give myself away as just a clumsy maid. I decided to hide by the punch bowl and not make eye contact with anyone.

I was drinking my first drink when a handsome Prince walked up to me. He had black hair and blue eyes, that was all I could make out through the mask.

"What is a pretty lady like you doing all alone over here?" He asked. His voice was soft and sweet, making my heart melt. He offered his hand to me.

"Can I have this dance?"

My heart dropped. Michelle never said a thing about dancing. Well what did I expect, it was a ball after all.

"Umm...I don't really know how to dance." I could feel my cheeks heat up from the embarrassment.

"A princess that doesn't know how to dance. Hmmm... That's a first. Come on, it will be fun."

He didn't really let me answer. He grabbed my hand and pulled me through the crowd and onto the dance floor. Not a single couple was on it and the whole room shushed as they saw us. A beautiful piano melody played as we began. I followed his lead as best as I could. We spun around the ballroom eyes watching us the whole time. I swear I could even hear murmurs of the gossiping princesses as we went. I tried to keep my eyes closed the whole time. The Prince pulled me closer and whispered in my ear.

"I'm not that bad am I?"

I laughed and opened my eyes to see his heart stopping smile. I relaxed a bit. Before I knew it the song was over.

"Follow me."

Once again he didn't give me much of a choice as he dragged me outside into a courtyard. He turned to me and slowly reached up to pull his mask off. He let it fall to the ground and I saw who he really was. My breathing stopped and my heart skipped a beat. It was the mean prince I had run into in the hallway on my first night here.
