Sorry for the short summary. I know it isn’t the best but I don’t really like revealing some of the story in the beginning so I just went with something short and sweet, along with two short previews of scenes that come later in the book.

I dedicated this to someone that read this and really wanted me to post it. So here it is.

Please, please, please comment and tell me what you think or just vote if you like it. It drives me nuts not knowing what you guys think and sometimes it makes me doubt myself so if you could that would be really great. Thank you and enjoy :)

“Kaitlynn, the King requests your presence.” A voice called out from behind me. The King requests my presence? The king never requests a simple maid like me’s presence. I immediately broke out into a cold sweat. What if I did something wrong? My stomach knotted up and my palms became sweaty.

‘Earth to Kaitlynn.” The voice called again. I snapped back into my senses and turned around. I found the owner of that voice to be my co-worker/ friend, Erin.

“Did you hear what I said?” Erin asked.

I nodded my head and turned to leave the kitchen. As I walked down the hall I took deep breaths to calm myself down. Maybe he called me to praise me. Honestly, I didn’t know what he was calling me for, but I knew it had to be important. I stopped outside the big doors leading to the dining room. On the other side of this door was the King. Beyond these doors was my fate, whatever it is. I took one last deep breath and opened the door, praying that this was going to be good instead of bad.

I found the King sitting in his chair at the end of the table as usual. I closed the door behind me and took a few steps away from it.

“You asked for me, your majesty?” My voice shook as I bowed my head.

“Ah, yes I did.” He spoke. I lifted my head and saw another man across the table staring at me. He was eyeing me up and down making me feel very uncomfortable. I spotted a crown resting upon his head; he was royalty. I bit down on my lip feeling more nervous than ever.

“So this is her?” the man asked. Her? What was he talking about?

“Yes. This is Kaitlynn.” The King responded. He looked at me then back at the stranger.

“She has only been here at my castle for a few months. She is a good cook, responsible, and loyal. She will serve you well.” He continued. It took me a second before his words began to sink in. He was talking about all my great qualities as if I was an object for sale on an infomercial. I didn’t like it.

“I’ll take her. I need all the help I can get at the moment.”

I froze. The King was selling me to this person. He couldn’t do that!

“Your highness-“I began to interject when he cut me off.

“You will be going with King Roland from Glenndale. They need some maids and I have chosen you to accompany him. You are now his.”

I felt my mouth drop. Now it was official.

“I can’t-“ I was once again cut off by the King.

“You do not back talk to your King!” he yelled at me. Even for the few months that I had been here, I had never seen this side of him. All respect I had for him went down the drain.

“I am sorry to disappoint your majesty but I cannot” I said formally. I once again bowed. As I turned around I bumped into something. I looked up and found myself staring at a very angry King.

“You are going like it or not!” My King yelled. He ordered his guards to come and get me. That day I was dragged out of the castle and forced into a car that drove me to Glenndale where I would begin my new life as a maid for King Roland. Like it or not.
