After a 3 hour drive the car finally rolled to a stop outside of a palace. It was humongous. Right outside was an amazing garden surrounding the whole place.  Just like the castle it was huge and very beautiful. The whole thing took my breath away. My thoughts where interrupted by the car door opening. In front of me was a nicely dressed man beckoning me out of the car. Every part of me wanted to stay in the car and demand to be taken back but I knew better. No amount of pouting or complaining would take me back and I couldn’t run; the old castle was too far away. I was truly stuck here.

I slowly stepped out of the castle and stood up. Moving to the side, I watched King Roland step out after me. He whispered something into the man’s ear and before I knew it I was practically being dragged in.

The castle was even larger from the inside. It didn’t take long for me to know it would be a while before I would know my way around. I tried keeping track of where we were going in my mind but after we turned a few corners and went through some hallways I lost it all. Giving up, I just followed the man. Eventually the guide stopped outside a door and held it open.

“Your room.” He told me. My room? I thought I was a maid here. Maids are supposed to live in the maid quarters with all the others. I recalled the early conversation between King Roland and my old master.

“I’ll take her. I need all the help I can get.”

“You will be going with King Roland from Glenndale. They need some maids and I have chosen you to accompany him. You are now his.”

Hmm. Maybe I was the only one. Entering the my new room, I looked around. It was pretty big. Maybe living here with King Roland wouldn’t be so bad.

“King Roland would like you to see him for dinner in the dining hall. I will be back with a proper outfit for you.” And with that the man left, leaving me all alone for the first time since my arrival.

Wait did he say dinner? Ok, maybe this was bad. There was no lying; dinner was almost like a death sentence to a maid. And here I was once again going to dinner with royalty. Two times in one day, I was really on a bad luck streak. Wonder what it will be about this time. Last time was being forced to relocate away from anything you ever knew without any possible way to get back. Can’t get much worse than that. Sadly, that was the only thing that reassured me which wasn’t exactly good.

I sat in my room repeating my awful day over and over again. It kept replaying in my head with no signs of ending anytime soon. Suddenly there was a knock at my door stalling my nightmare temporarily.

The guy from earlier entered with a dress, shoes, and jewelry.

‘Dinner will be served in 30 minutes.” He turned and left my room without so much as a second glance.

The dress was a simple baby blue color and touched the ground on me. Even though it was long the rest of it snuggly wrapped around my body. That couldn’t have been luck or even coincidence that the dress fit me perfectly. How did he know my dress size? I pushed the mysterious thought out of my head; I had more important things to do at the moment than worry about some strange thought.

I found the shoes he left me at the foot of my bed. They weren’t very exquisite as I imagined they would be. Once again something simple; a pair of white slippers. The jewelry was the opposite of everything; diamond necklace with a matching diamond bracelet. It was in complete contrast with the rest of my apparel drawing all the attention to it and off of the gown.

I quickly checked the time saw I still had 20 minutes left till my doom. As much as I didn’t want to I needed to look nice. I still hadn’t done a thing to my hair yet. Hurrying, I quickly curled my hair and put it into a ponytail. When that was finished I went to the mirror for a last look.

The girl looking back at me was a stranger. She was definitely not the girl I had been used to seeing; no were even close. When I glanced back at the clock I had 5 minutes. Figuring it would take me that long just to locate the dining room I left my room immediately. I would need all the time I could get just to find it.

I wondered all over the castle it felt like with still no sign of the dining room. After a while I began to panic. I didn’t have a watch leaving my desperate to know how much time I had left. Slowly I picked up my pace over time and it didn’t take long before I was practically racing through the halls. This place reminded me of a maze, with me being the rat. I whipped around a corner in pursuit of not being late and before I could stop myself I ran into someone. I felt a hand grab me trying to stop me but the person was unable to; sending us both crashing to the ground.

I landed on top of the mystery person. I scrambled to get off of them as fast as I could.

“Oh my goodness. My apologizes, I am so SO sorry, please-“ I was cut short.

‘Whatever” It was a man’s voice.

The man pushed me off of him and soon I was on my feet along with him. He was dressed very nicely; almost like a prince…suddenly it hit me. He was a prince! I stared up at his face. He was handsome.

“What are you looking at?” he snapped. My eyes widened. I forgot I was staring.

“Sorry” I curtsied.

I heard him sigh and push past me. He didn’t seem very nice. I frowned; after all I did run into him, he kinda had a reason to hate me.  I watched him storm off before continuing my search for the elusive dining room.
