OPERATION DAY
Angie
October.
It's been three weeks since the tournament. Every day, it was harder to go to school having to walk around with a stupid cast on and crutches. My mum's driver would drive me to school and back home. Two weeks ago, we had a party to celebrate the championship. Because of my injury, the party was held in my place which my parents offered wholeheartedly. They knew that I wouldn't be able to enjoy if it was in a different location.
Three weeks of suffering from the pain on my ankle and slowly accepting the fact that I might not be able to join the Volleyball varsity in Stanford.
When we got back in Sarasota, Harry and Gemma flew to Los Angeles but Harry made sure he attended the Championship party but the day after that, he went back to Los Angeles and eventually England. We've been on several Skype dates but I miss him every day. It sure does feel different having this type of long distance relationship. He can't always be here in Sarasota, he has a job. I can't always be in either LA or London because I have school and the SATs are so close, I really need to do good as well.
It's Friday after school. No more training which means I always went home early considering someone was picking me up all the time. Tonight, I'm due for New York because I'm having my surgery tomorrow early in the morning. Once we arrive in New York, I have to be admitted already. Recovery will take a few days which means I'm taking a week off of school. I keep on insisting that I'll be fine once I get at most two days of rest but my doctor in New York advised me to take the entire week off.
I'm in my living room, food on the coffee table and my foot rested on a pile of pillows. This has been my life, I'd either be laying down or sitting down. Even walking up to my room is a challenge. Bathing is a challenge, so is changing. Practically, everything physical I have to do is a challenge.
Minutes have passed and my parents finally arrive at home. They quickly grab their luggage from their bedrooms before helping me into the car. Today, my mum's driver is driving us to the airport and my dad is hiring a town car to drive us around New York. It's almost 8 in the evening and we won't get to New York around 11 or so. My mum slowly helps me get into the car. She sits beside me the entire car journey holding my crutches.
My cast was signed by everyone I knew and the entire team. There's even a huge signature from Harry and a small note saying that no matter what happens, I will always love you. It's not like I'm dying, I'm simply getting a surgery on my ankle in which they'll fix my ligament and the bones that have cracked. That moment when I landed sloppy is what haunts me so much, I keep dreaming about it and whenever I do, I feel a pang of pain on my left ankle.
...
We finally arrive in Newark Airport and the town car drives us directly to the hospital. My doctor said that I have to be admitted right away once I've arrived in New York. They're starting the surgery either tomorrow night or afternoon, they'll have to check up on me first.
