6 YEARS LATER...
Angie
"Mum, I'm fine. My flat is all ready and fixed. I start working tomorrow." I tell my mum through the phone as I look at my new flat in central London.
"Are you sure you don't want me to come there and check on you?" She worries,
"No, I'll be fine. I'm twenty-eight years old, I'll do fine." I remind her,
"I know, sweetheart. But we will visit you soon."
"Okay, I'll look forward to that. Kiss Nathan good night for me."
"Of course, I bet you're tired. Talk tomorrow?"
"Yes, mother. I love you."
"I love you more, Angelica." She ends the call and I drop my phone on my couch.
I've made it. I'm pursuing my dream. I'm in London practising Paediatrics specifically in Evelina London Children's Hospital where I'm an on-call doctor. I've been working there for months now. I struggled to stay in a hotel for months until I could find a flat near the hospital so if an emergency emerges, I could arrive there on time or earlier.
I finished unpacking and decorating my flat the entire week. With work and the flat, it takes an entire week or two to get things done. Another reason I left for London was because I was and still am recovering from a bad break-up.
After Harry coming to my graduation, we agreed to remain friends until fate or destiny would intervene. These past 6 years, neither fate nor destiny intervened. I moved on, with who? A man who was in Med School in Stanford practising Paediatrics as well. We got on well with each other, we had a lot of similarities. We weren't exclusive until 6 months later. Given the history with Harry, he understood why I wanted to take things slow and to not rush into things unlike what I did with Harry. With Harry, our relationship was like a treadmill, we got on it right away.
Adrian, he made me the happiest woman. He made me forget about Harry. He made me feel so special. He made me move on. He was my everything. He was my lifeline. He was the best thing that has happened after Harry. But not all goes to a happy ending. I'm here in London, alone in my own flat, what do you think happened? It ended. Our own little fairy tale ended. We dated for 5 years, that's a big commitment. We moved in together. He moved in to the flat I used to share with Louise. We were serious with each other. We motivated each other to do well in school. We inspired each other to pursue our dreams. We were a team.
Adrian and I went on a lot of adventures during the breaks. He met my family and my little brother, Nathan – who is now 10 – he was adored by my family. I really thought he was the one. Living with him was always a surprise, but a good one. Even though we would be celebrating 3 years together, we weren't the type that would sit at home, order take out, have sex and say "happy 3 years, I love you". No, he never failed to surprise me. He would go big on our anniversaries. Bring me to a rendezvous that would be filled with lights, flowers, candles and all those sappy romantic shit. Even during monthsaries, he'd give me flowers. He was the ideal boyfriend.
We went through ups and downs yet we recovered from it. There was never a time we were on the verge of breaking up because we always found ourselves back with each other. That was us, we'd fight yet we knew we would make up. But Adrian and I ended.
