GETTING BETTER

Angie

November 2016

It's been two months since Harry and I broke up. Day by day, I've been feeling so much better. Even though it's just been a month, Louise has been trying to get me back to dating and I always turn her guys down because it is way too soon to be involved with someone. I can't be with someone this early. More like, I don't want to be with anyone else. I just want to focus on school and my family and friends. That's all.

It's October and it's my baby brother's birthday. I flew all the way to Sarasota just to celebrate his 3rd birthday. Last year in his 2nd birthday, Harry made a big surprise and flew all the way to Sarasota just to attend Nathan's birthday. Now, it's just me attending. I insisted on Louise coming but she had too much things going on and opted to stay in our apartment back in Stanford.

I'm in the function hall in a hotel where my baby brother's birthday will be held. I came earlier as I insisted on decorating with the party planner and her helpers. It's only 10 in the morning and the party won't begin until this lunch time. Nathan's friends from Nursery and his play date friends, of course, family members will be here. My grandparents from both sides arrived last night and some other relatives as well. I'm helping with decorating because there's not much things to do at home but to stare at the ocean until the party is ready.

"Are you okay there?" The party planner asks as I hang my brother's portraits,

"Yeah, I'm fine." I give her a smile as I'm finishing a portrait.

...

Guests begin to enter the function hall and soon my parents come. The family driver hands me my bag with changed clothes. I change into a yellow dress with my black stilettos. I do my hair and make-up in the bathroom in the function hall and fold my clothes back in the bag. I come out with more guests arriving. I hand the bag back to the driver and he takes it in the family car. I approach my parents and give kisses to my very handsome brother. He then lets go and runs and plays with the other kids in the middle of the room.

As I'm walking around to check if everything is fine and into place, a hand covers my eyes, I turn around to see Tyler and Savannah. I can't believe they're actually here! The last time I saw them was last year's Thanksgiving when we hung out for a day with Ivan. I hug them instantly and we all form a group hug, just the three of us.

"You made it!" I squeal, I never expected them to go to Nathan's 3rd birthday.

"Of course we'd make it. We didn't attend the first two." Tyler says and plants a kiss on my forehead.

The three of us find a table and we start catching each other up on life while we eat the food from the buffet. Savannah, my best friend, broke up with Ivan because the distance is just too much for them. They rarely see each other and they can't find a way to actually make it work, they're just not that kind of couple. Tyler, on the other hand, is single as well. I thought he got together with someone in College but he just couldn't grasp that which shocks me. They're both doing well and I'm just happy that I get to see my two best friends.
