Chapter Five
The next morning when Robert woke up, he felt good. Like nothing could ruin his day. He didn’t know what it was about Preston that put him in a good mood. He would make a good friend. His uncle’s money is the reason he has so many fake friends. Preston is the type of friend he needed in his life right now. Robert walked over to his window and saw his uncle’s car still in the driveway. He thought his uncle would have left for work by this time. It’s never good when his uncle is late to work. That means someone had messed up and he would yell at someone. Just then, he heard a knock on his door, when he answered it, he saw it was his cousin Rose leaning on the doorframe.
“What do you want Rose?” Robert asked clearly annoyed to see her.
“Father sent me to fetch you. You must be in trouble if he is missing work?” she said with a wicked smile.
“Whatever Rose, get out of my way, so I can see what he wants.” Robert said as he pushed Rose out of the way.
Only Rose would get a kick out of seeing one of them getting in trouble. She was sick and twisted like that, and clearly she was his uncle’s favorite. No matter how much their mom would tell them otherwise. When Robert finally made it to his uncle’s study, he saw he was on the phone. His uncle motion for him to take a seat across from him, Robert waited as he finished his phone call.
“Do you know why I called you in here?” his uncle asked. To be honest Robert didn’t know.
“No sir I don’t have the slightest clue as to why I was called in?” Robert said.
“Where were you last night? You got in pretty late and you were gone all day.” His uncle asked.
“I took Ann Marie to the airport to meet her family. Then I went to the mall and I just lost track of time. What’s the big deal I came home late? It wouldn’t be the first time.” Robert said.
“Did you forget what yesterday was?” his uncle asked.
Robert still didn’t know what his uncle was trying to get at; he thought back to what he was suppose to do yesterday. He saw a picture of his uncle and one of his biggest clients. Then he remembered, he was supposed to show Salvatore’s nephew Vince around the city. He was planning to move down here from Connecticut. He didn’t know how he could have forgotten about it; no wonder his uncle was mad.
“I take it from the look on your face you remember now?” his uncle asked.
“Yes sir, I remember and I am very sorry about that. How about I call up Vince and ask him if he wants me to show him around today?” Robert said.
“There is no need, lucky for you your sister Rose took it upon herself to take him around the city. Yes, it seems he took a fancy to your sister. At least he is a step up from the usual guys she has been known to go out with.” His uncle said.
“Well if that is all, may I be excused then?” Robert asked.
“No not yet, I have another favor I must ask of you. Do you remember Vera, Salvatore’s only daughter?” his uncle asked. Robert remembers her good; she was always trying to get him in trouble. Vera and Rose got along so well, they were both vicious.
“Yes I do but it has been many years since I have seen her. Might I ask why you bring her up?” Robert asked.
“She has been studying abroad in Italy and has decided to attend college in the states. She will be attending FSU as well. So she is going to need someone to show her around when she starts next month.” His uncle said.
