Preparationswere going well but not all on both sides were happy. Alan watchedthe church from afar. Marian's father, Sir Edward, had brought newsthe king was coming back home and arriving in Notthingham this day.Marian's father and a group of other nobels would have to protect theking and weren't there to prevent the marriage. Every man was forcedto make his choice but Alan had to do a thing before he could makehis own.
Hewatched Lily feeding two boys before she walked closer to the forest.She didn't look right or left and didn't see who was following her.Her master stood just inches away from her and every muscle in Alan'sbody was alarming him but Sir Guy didn't make any move. He justwatched her and didn't look left or right either. When he finallyturned away to leave his most loyal servant had reached the trees andknelt to pick a few small wild strawberries.
"Doyou know who follows you?" Alan joked coming closer to his friendand touched her shoulder when kneeling next to her. "You know... hewill Marian today. She doesn't love him because she loves Robin butshe made a choice. You and I... we have to make a choice too. Whenthe king is back England is free and safe again. Come with me and webuild a home somewhere. I don't have much right now but together wewill look after each other. I'm not being funny but I think it's thebest idea. So, what do you think?"
Alansaw her shaking her head. She touched his hand and held onto it whenshe stood up again. Lily shock her head again before she turnedaround.
"Lily,please... You don't owe him anything" Alan stepped out of theforest following his friend who smiled and him and touched her heart.Alan understood and nodded. "Then I won't leave without you. We arefriends. When you trust him... Lily, I can't do the same... but Istay for you"
Alanbowed before he ran back to the forest. He had to join his gang onthis day when he heard the bells of the church he looked back toLocksley and thought of his friend and how she felt on this day.
Englandwouldn't be the same again.
