Chapter24 – Unwelcomed guest

"What'sthis? What is this?!" The sheriff stepped right across the room andtook her flowers to throw them away. Something had changed andbrought the man to the place she called home.

Lilywas in her room and watched the man from upstairs. She was lookingfor Guy but instead she heard a whistle from her window. Alan stoodbeneath it and tried to tell her something but while he waved hisarms she couldn't hear him speak listening only to the sound ofbreaking glas.

Thesheriff was destorying her home and the servant sank to her knees andcried quietly. Didn't Sir Guy of Gisborne knew her fear of this man?Why did he allow this evil monster to invade their home and fill itwith nightmares?

Shewanted to hear his voice telling her this was all a dream. She wishedhe would say something to stop the sheriff and prove he was the goodman and hero she believed in.

ButGuy didn't speak. His servant girl wasn't even sure he was at home.Maybe the sheriff had come himself while her hero was still inNottingham. It was possible he didn't know what was going on in hishouse but was missing her. After another week in Nottingham Lily wassure her master was desperate to come home but the footsteps sheheard on the stairs weren't his.

"Lily..."

Shelooked up when she saw her friend at her window. He had climbed up toand spoke quietly. "Lily, quickly. The sheriff can't find you here.Come. Be quiet but come here. Gisborne can't stop him without losinghis face and position. Lily, hurry"

"Whatwas that?" - "It was nothing Mylord" - "I heard voicesGisborne"

Hertears came more and more while she stumbled towards Alan and let himhelp her outside. Lily wasn't a very good climber and had to trusther friend to keep her save. Together they ran to the stables whenLily turned once around to the mansion's door.

Herhero was looking straight at her but didn't move. His mouth didn'tform words of explanation and faded away when Alan pulled her arm tofollow him. She cried in his arms waiting in the stable for any signthe sheriff would leave.

Hourspassed by and the servant was freezing and tired when Sir Guy finallycame to her side. "Lily? Lily, I'm sorry. I sent Alan to warn youbut he wasn't fast enough. The sheriff... he can't find you here. Hewill kill you if he sees I didn't follow his orders"

Hetouched her arm but his servant didn't want it. Lily robbed evencloser to Alan who carried her back inside and stayed with her untilshe fell asleep.
