Chapter 12

--Payton’s POV--

I sat in my car staring at the windshield. The knowledge that Michael had cheated on me finally sunk in.

When I was younger I always told myself that if my boyfriend or husband cheated on me I would leave them, no questions asked. But here I was still dating him. I’m clearly mad at him but I never broke up with him. I can’t go around changing my morals for one guy.

No matter how much it hurts, I know what I have to do.

--Michael’s POV--

I stood staring at the door that Payton just walked out of. I can’t believe I did that to her.

I knew that she has been hurt before.

I was the one who was supposed to save her.

But instead I broke her even more.

I choked back tears. I haven’t cried in forever, let alone cried over a girl. But right now my heart was breaking in my chest and It took everything I had to hold back those tears.

I almost let one slip when it was cut off by a knock on the door.

I frantically lurched for the door hoping it might be Payton’s coming to forgive me.

It was Payton alright but there was no forgiving happening here.

“Payton-” I squeaked out.

“I’m sorry for what I’m about to do.” She said as tears ran down her face.

I gave her a questioning look as fear filled me. “I can’t be with someone who cheats.” She said. “I’m done. We’re over.”

Those last two words almost sent me to my knees. My vision blurred and my knees went weak. The room spun around me.

“I’m sorry.” She repeated as she disappeared from my life.

--Payton’s POV--

I clutched the steering wheel as I held in tears. I still had to go to Calum’s house for this sleepover. I don’t think I’ll be able to hold it together but I have to go anyway. I pulled up to his house and walked up to the front door. He texted me and told me to just walk in so I did. I stepped into his house and almost fell over.

“SURPRISE!” Screamed everyone in the room which included Calum, Ashton, Luke, Kaylee and a bunch of my friends from school. Great.

“We’re throwing you a party to help you feel better!” Calum  screamed happily. “There’s more people coming at 9.”

I stared back at the people who were staring at me with grins on their faces.

I burst into tears.

“Shit.” Ashton said as he ran over to me wrapping his arm around me. “Babe what’s wrong?” He soothed. I cried harder. I heard more people coming over, probably Kaylee and the other boys.

“Pay can you tell us what’s wrong?” Kaylee whispered rubbing my back. I took a deep breath trying to ready myself to speak.

“He cheated on me so I broke up with him.” I said gasping through the tears. I heard murmurs all around at the news. Kaylee gasped and I felt Ashton’s arms stiffen around me.

“What an asshole!” She said trying to contain her anger. Ashton’s breathing quickened and his jaw tightened. I could tell he was angry. I pulled away from him and put on my best fake smile.
