Chapter 15
I love the way his hair tickles my neck. I love the way his eyes shine in the dim light when he looks at me. I love the way the beeps from the heart monitor speed up when I kiss his lips, and the way he blushes when it does.
Michael and I laid entwined on the hospital bed waiting for him to be released. He had trouble staying awake due to his meds so I had lots of time to think.
I forgave him. Maybe I shouldn’t have but right now, I don’t care. He’s the only one who can make me feel whole again. We both messed up but we got over it and we can fix this.
His lips brushed against my jawline and I turned so our lips met instead. The fire that we previously had intensified since the breakup. Now when our lips locked It felt even more like ecstasy than before. The heart monitor beeped wildly as my hands wove into his hair and our lips parted slightly, allowing our tongues to meet once again like old friends. I could feel Michael’s cheeks warm from the invasion of his heart’s privacy. Our lips slowed, turning into shorter kisses until I pulled back slightly. I wanted to look at him for a while so I never forget this moment. I finally felt truly happy. The time that we were broken up was excruciatingly painful. Now it’s finally over and I can go back to loving him.
“I heard about your parents.” I whispered, not needing to talk any louder at our close proximity. He looked down.
“Oh. I know I should’ve told you. I just didn’t want you to see the weak side of me. I’m supposed to be strong-” He explained.
“I know.” I interrupted. “You don’t have to explain yourself but if we’re going to make this work we can’t lie to each other anymore.” I said.
“I know. From now on I’ll always tell you the truth.” He promised staring into my eyes. I smiled.
“Good.” I said kissing him softly.
“Can you be my girlfriend again now?” He asked between kisses.
“Yeah.” I said. “But you better know this is a rare thing for me. I don’t usually give second chances.”
“I know and don’t worry, I won’t need a third.” He said. I grinned, entwining my hand into his. Just as my lips met his again, the door opened.
The boys entered the room followed by Dr. Bryson and a nurse.
“I see you made up.” Luke commented. I smiled and reluctantly got off of Michael’s bed seeing as we now had an audience.
The boys all gave Michael a hug and scolded him for being an idiot while the nurse removed the IV from his arm and the other various tubes connected to his body.
The doctor advised Michael to have someone stay with him for a few days to make sure nothing else happened. I volunteered for the night. He also gave him some medication.
When we were finally able to leave, Michael and headed to my car. I couldn’t ignore the dirty looks that Michael was sending Ashton the whole walk to the parking lot. Once we got in I turned to him.
“Do you hate him now?” I asked, referring to Ashton.
“No fucking shit.” He scoffed. I sighed. I’m not surprised. I would be mad at Ash too if I were Michael.
“Will you ever forgive him? I mean you guys are best friends.” I reasoned.
“Friends don’t fuck other friend’s ex’s.” He sneered, facing forward. I left it at that, I mean, he as a good point.
Michael fell asleep on the drive home so I listened to music by myself.
We pulled up at his apartment and I walked over to the passenger’s side door and opened it.
