I closed the door behind the both of us, watching Link carefully as he sat down on one of the steps to my front porch. Each of his elbows were on his knees and his arms were crossed as he looked back at me.
I slowly sat down beside him, making sure that there was at least six inches between us.
"How did you know where I lived?" I turned towards Link, narrowing my eyes.
Link's eyes went wide and he quickly threw his hands up in surrender, "I'm not a stalker, I swear."
My eyes remained narrow as he averted his gaze, "Miles' house is down the street and we saw you get off the bus as we got out of his car."
"Miles is our age " I countered, "He can't legally drive yet."
"Ah," Link grinned, chuckling very softly.
"What?"
Link shook his head as he looked at me, "Miles failed Kindergarten, he's actually a year older than us."
"How the hell do you fail Kindergarten?" I was genuinely asking because I couldn't see how you can fail a grade where you baisicly sleep all day.
"I dont really know to be honest, from the rumors that I've heard he tried to summon a demon using popsicle sticks and glue."
I raised my eyebrows, "How messed up are Miles parents?"
Link averted his gaze once more, "Both his parents died in a car crash when he was five so I don't know if you can blame his parents. He lives with his Uncle though and he believes in a lot of crazy shit."
I didn't respond to that.
So maybe seeing ghosts was just part of the things he got from his uncle.
"Anyway, I didnt come for homework."
My heart began to pound in my chest as I looked up at him.
Lincoln had a concerned look on his face, his eyes sad and the corners of his mouth forming a small frown. He continued to look at me, his hazel eyes boring into mine.
"Audrey...." Link said softly, "I saw you crying on the sidewalk and I became really concerned."
Shit.
I refused to look at him, averting my gaze. I didnt respond to his statement, refusing to open my mouth.
Why did he have to see out of all people?
"Hey, you dont have to tell me what's wrong okay?" Link then said after a minute of silence between the two of us, "I just..." He slowly rubbed th3 back of his head, "I don't want you to be sad. I don't want any of my friends to be sad."
I then muttered softly, "Who's said I was your friend?"
I know it was a little bitter, but that's how I was feeling right now. Link was intruding into my personal life. I met him today, he isn't allowed to see any other part of me besides my cold side. No one's aloud to see me cry.
Walker was the only exception and that was only because we share a special connection that nobody else can see.
He's the ghost boy to the real girl.
There was a brief flash of hurt in Links eyes but he slowly shook his head a smirk pulling up the left corner of his lips.
"What?" I muttered again.
He kept smirking as he responded, "I'm the one that decided you were my friend obviously. I mean, I sat next to you in class and invited you to join me and my other friends."
I sighed, crossing my arms over my chest and letting out a small huff.
"I still like you with a smile but seeing you mad is pretty cute too you know," Link grinned.
I glared in his direction as I stood up and he quickly stood up as well.
I started walking to my front door when he grabbed my wrist, forcing me to stop in my tracks.
"Audrey," He said softly.
I slowly turned back to look at him to see him with an unreadable expression on his face. It was between a smile and a frown, his eyes showing neither sadness or happiness.
He then let go of my wrist, continuing to look at me, "I'll be here for you okay? So once you actually begin to trust me, you can tell me what's wrong."
He then began to smile and winked at me before turning around, "See you in class Audrey. I look forward to tomorrow."
And just like that he walked away. Off the porch, down the driveway and down the sidewalk till I could no longer see him anymore.
Link really confuses me at this point. I don't know what to think of him. He acts friendly towards me and everyone else around him but he also seems to have a colder side. In those eyes when he was emotionless I could not see anything there except darkness.
Perhaps I'm wrong to be cautious around Link. Maybe he's actually a really nice guy and I'm refusing to give him a chance.
But right now I'm going to treat him like everyone else in my life.
A stranger.
I looked up at the pale frame of Walker as he floated down on to the step Link was sitting in only a minute before.
He softly smiled but I could see the sadness in his features.
Walker was an open book around me. Unlike Link I could see how he really felt.
Walker turned towards me with his hands in his pockets, "Lovely weather today huh?"
I looked away from him to look up at the sky, where the sky had great white fluffy clouds that bundled against eachother in the sky as a orange and red sunset was in the horizon.
I couldn't help but smile at the view, because the weather was indeed very lovely despite my mood.
