"Zeke! Come on please give it back!" Wynter almost screamed as she reached across Zeke to grab her phone from his hands, practically laying on top of him.
Now we're back in the present, me sitting at a lunch table with two people who were at each-others throats, a guy that read demonic literature, a guy who constantly kept flirting with girls and one guy that wouldn't stop looking at Walker with a smile.
I watched as Wynter and Zeke wrestled for her phone before turning to watch Axel twirl a blonde cheerleader into sitting on his lap. She blushed like crazy as he spoke to her quietly and kept his hands at her waist.
I sighed, pushing my tray in front of me before laying on the table.
I was not used to so much chaos.
How can everyone deal with this everyday?
"Hey Audrey? Can you tell Zeke to give my phone back?" I looked up as Wynter looked at me pleadingly, her glasses crooked on her face. She had turned her back to Zeke who was tapping her phone screen furiously.
"Screw that, Audrey can you tell me what Wynter's phone password is?" Zeke grinned as Wynter tried to grab her phone again in fury.
"Zeke, you are such an asshole!"
"Guys!" Link slammed his hands against the lunch table, causing everyone except Miles to jump.
As soon as Link saw that he had our attention he let out a sigh, "Liam gave me our flyers today so I need some help putting them up around the school and Town Square. So today after school if you guys are free come to my house so that we could get to work. We still have a lot of work to do before this concert." He then turned in Wynter's direction, "And as always Wynter you are welcome to come too."
"I promise I'll be there Link. I have nothing to do at my house anyway," Wynter smiled widely, slapping Zeke in the chest so hard he started coughing, "I'll pick up Zeke on my way to your place too."
"Yep..." Zeke groaned, coughing again, "Damn that hurt."
Link then turned to Miles, "I'm guessing I just need to pick you up right? You're uncle won't care if you come for practice right?"
Miles held up two thumbs before going back to his book.
Link nodded his head in acknowledgment turning to Axel who was in an intimate conversation with the cheerleader in his lap. His mouth pressed against her ear.
"Axel!" Link said loudly, causing both Axel and the cheerleader turn toward him with annoyance.
"What?" Axel said with his eyebrows raised.
Link sighed, clenching and unclenching his fist on top of the table, "My house for practice for our concert next week and also to put up our flyers that Liam provided me today. Are you in or out?"
Axel nodded his head, a smirk crossing his features, "Yeah I'll be there. Any specific time you want me there or can I show up whenever?" He began twirling the cheerleaders hair between two of his fingers.
"As soon as we get out of school would be best but anytime yeah," Link nodded his head, averting his gaze from Axel and the cheerleader. He turned his gaze on to me then, giving me a warm smile, "How about you Audrey, do you want to come? You're more than welcome to."
I looked down at my hands in my lap, "I don't know if my mom would let me go over to a guy's house. I haven't really been over to anyone's house in years, not even a girl's."
"Well I'll be there Audrey," Wynter smiled at me, adjusting her glasses, "It's not like it's going to be just you and Link, it's going to be the whole group."
That's true.
"Plus your mom can meet my mom if you want, I hear moms are more comfortable with each-other than they are with teenagers." Link smiled, chuckling softly.
I nodded my head slowly, "I'll do my best."
"Sweet!" Link grinned before leaning close to me, "You can bring Walker too," he whispered, looking at Walker who was floating directly above Miles head, reading his book over his shoulder.
"Of course he's coming...." I muttered quietly.
Link smiled in understanding, returning to sit up straight, "So anyway, does anyone else have any comments or suggestions about our concert next Saturday?"
I listened as they talked about their band, but I couldn't say I was paying a lot of attention. I looked over at Walker as he read Miles book from behind him and at times Miles would swat the area that he was in, like he was trying to stop an annoying insect from bothering him.
Walker eventually noticed me looking at him and made his way to float over to stand beside me a bright smile on his face, "This group seems really cool you know. This would definitely be the group of friends that I had while I was alive. How about you? Do you think they can be your group of friends?"
I paused, thinking about that for a moment.
I had always considered myself to be a loner and I always thought that I would never have friends again after what happened between me and Walt, but it wasn't like I tried to make friends either. I shut everybody out.
But now there's people that are trying to let me in, to be open with them.
I don't know if it's a good or a bad thing yet.
But I nodded my head in Walker's direction, giving him an easy smile.
Walker seemed to be pleased by my words because his face lit up in a big smile. The dimples he already had grew bigger and he placed his hands in the pockets of his dark hoodie, "I'm so glad Audrey! This can be the start for something great for you, you know?"
I nodded again, turning back to face the others around the table.
It was interesting how things have happened in the past month. It's the first week of November now and it's strange when I think back to the first week of October and how I wanted to commit suicide during that time.
Life works out strangely that way.
