Letter 2
Dear Y/N,
Its been two days since I last wrote to you and I know I promised I would write everyday but ever since the new greenie arrived in the box, things have been pretty hectic around the glade and Alby has been on edge ever since. So many things have been going on but this new greenie, he sure does remind me of you. And yes, I said HE. Some boys were disappointed it wasn't another girl but anyways, back to the point. He reminds me of you because he's curious. His name is Thomas and ever since he came up in the box, all that comes out of his mouth are questions! He even came up with a few theories but of course, you've thought of them all already. Even so, he's pretty determined to escape just like you were and some of the gladers, aka Gally, seem to not like him very much. Like I told you in the last letter, some gladers are becoming more content on staying here and sadly, Gally's one of them. You and Thomas, of course, differ in many aspects though (including the fact that you're way prettier than he is!). He WANTS to become a runner. I told him nobody wants to become a runner and that runners were chosen but he really is quite rebellious. Anyways, enough talk about Thomas, I've got to fill you in on the strange things that have been happening.
On Thomas' second day in the glade, he was working with me in the gardens so we could see if he was a potential track-hoe. Of course, he kept on asking questions about the maze and frankly, I wasn't really in the mood to answer so I threw a basket at him and told him to grab some fertilizer from the forest. Next thing you know, he was bloody screaming and running for his life as Ben chased him out of the forest! Ben looked so sickly and he looked like he was going insane. I'm going to have to explain the next part to you because it never happened during the five months you were in the glade but Ben had been stung by a Griever in broad daylight. I know you know Griever's only come out at night so that's already pretty crazy but I have to explain to you what happens when people get stung. When people get stung by a Griever, they go through what we call the changing. Basically, anyone stung by a Griever starts to go insane and they start to remember their past. Unfortunately, they also start to become dangerous so last night, we had to banish Ben into the maze. I'm sorry I never told you about all of this, Alby decided that a long time ago, when another glader had been stung, we would all never talk about it to anyone else. Alby believed that whatever greenie's didn't know wouldn't hurt them.
If you think this is crazy, even crazier things have happened. This morning, Minho and Alby went into the maze to retrace Ben's footsteps to make sure he was dead. As the time for the maze doors to close came, everyone gathered around the doors. I couldn't help but think about the day you died as I stood there. Just as the maze doors started to close, we all saw Minho dragging Alby, struggling. I knew in my heart they wouldn't make it but I cheered them on anyways. As the maze doors were just about to shut, this bloody shank, Thomas, ran into the shucking maze! I tell you, the boy's got a death wish. Gally threw a fit after the doors closed, going off about how Thomas just broke the rules. I couldn't help but cry again. My two best friends and a greenie that I was warming up to just bloody died. Everyone seems to be leaving, Y/N. You have no idea how much I miss you, it's been beyond difficult without you here. Anyways its getting really late now, I better head to my hammock to get some rest, besides, it looked like Chuck needed some comforting. He really liked Thomas so I think I'm going to see him before I head to sleep. Have a good night love, I miss you.Newt
- Y/N perspective -
I awoke in a familiar place. Glass walls surrounding me with people in lab coats outside. Some sat in front of computer screens while others seemed to be experimenting on some sort of blue liquid. There was a moment of déjà vu, I swore I've seen this all before. I sat up slowly, taking in my surroundings. A small area of the glass wall slid open like a door and a woman walked in with a familiar briefcase. I immediately remembered the woman as she smiled that same dishonest smile.
"Well good morning Y/N, we're going to have to give you something a little bit stronger to keep you out longer okay?" The woman sounded like she asked for permission even though she knew I had no choice. Her voice was slurred and my vision was blurry but I could still see as she pulled out a syringe from her briefcase. Memories started to flood into my mind, I felt my body shake uncontrollably as I remembered the dozens of time I had already awoken in this same room, experiencing this same thing without remembering anything after the glade. This drug shucking takes away my memory and keeps me unconscious! Before I could retaliate, two guards held down my arms and legs as my body continued to shake uncontrollably.
"Hold her still, we've got to give her this before her memories are fully recovered." The woman spoke strictly to the two guards as their grips tightened on my ankles and wrists. I felt the drug flow into my body as she stuck the needle into the fold of my arm. I winced, my arm was sore probably from all the other times I had already done this. My eyes slowly shut as the woman looked down at my face.
"The maze trials are almost over Y/N, you just simply knew too much too soon." I heard the woman leave and the strong hands that had held me down soon disappeared as I heard the door close. Knew too much? Too soon? What the shuck is that supposed to mean? My mind drifted off and it was darkness all over again.
