The Feeling (Newt x Reader)

     I woke up the next morning with my head resting on Newt's shoulder. we were still under the large tree, away from the gladers. His arm was wrapped around me and he was still fast asleep. So it wasn't a dream, I thought, smiling as I gently unwrapped myself from Newt. He looked so peaceful when he was asleep. I stared at him a little while longer, admiring his angelic features when suddenly I remembered that today I would be going into the maze! Panic rushed through my veins as I realized it would be twenty minutes until the runners left. Shuck, they're probably wondering where I am! I thought, quickly but quietly standing up. I looked at Newt one more time before running off to prepare for the run. We kissed last night, I remembered. I blushed and walked  towards the quietly snoring Newt.
     "I love you." I whispered in Newt's ear as I kissed him gently on his cheek as a goodbye. Newt's eyes suddenly fluttered open.
     "Whatcha doing there love?" Newt smiled as he brushed the side of my face with his warm hands and gently pulled me in for a kiss.
     "Just saying goodbye, I have my run today." I smiled, happily kissing him back. Newt pulled away, his smile turned into a concerned frown.
     "Are you sure you want to go?" He asked, trying to avoid an argument.
     "Newt, you know I have to." I smiled at him, grasping his hands and squeezed them, ensuring him that I would be alright. After a moment of silence, Newt stood up.
     "Alright, I'll help you get ready then." Newt's tone was serious, I knew he didn't want me going out there but Minho and Athena were coming with me so what was the big deal? Besides, Griever's only came out at night. Newt jogged to the map room as I followed.
     "Hey, I'm just gonna grab some food from Frypan okay? I'll meet you in the map room in a few." I said as I started jogging towards the kitchen. Newt nodded in approval.

     Frypan happily handed me two water bottles, an apple and a sandwich.
     "Be careful out there greenie!" Frypan exclaimed as I waved back and jogged towards the map room. Newt, Athena and Minho were already there. Minho and Athena were busy packing their stuff and Newt smiled up at me as he saw me enter.
     "Y/N! I packed all your stuff!" Newt handed me a backpack which was surprisingly heavy.
     "What's in here Newt? This thing ways a shuckload!" I said as I placed it on the ground, curious to see what Newt had packed for me.
     "Shank's thought of every possible emergency that could happen and literally packed everything you would possibly need." Minho said laughing as he shook his head.
     "Hey, well you never know!" Newt argued.
     "TWO packages of bandages Newt? Seriously?" I say laughing as I pulled the two boxes out of the bag. They were already large packages each. "Knock on wood but if I ever do get injured so badly that I would need two of these packages to seal me up, I think I could just use gauze!" I laughed as Newt rolled his eyes.
     "Just take what you need Y/N, Newt here is just being a little overprotective. I mean, he had his arms wrapped around you so tight last night that not even Gally could rip you away!" Athena laughed while she packed.
     "Yeah, you two looked sooo comfortable last night!" Minho laughed and winked at Newt. Both mine and Newt's faces went red as we quickly looked at each other, embarrassed that we had been caught.
     "Relaaaxxxx, the entire glade knew you shanks would eventually hit it off." Athena said as she looked up and winked at me. "Anyways lovebirds, unfortunately Y/N here can't eat your face all day, we gotta go." Athena looked at Newt as if to say "kiss her goodbye!" I zipped up my bag, finishing up unpacking all the extra supplies Newt had thoughtfully placed inside.
     "Meet us at the wall in two!" Minho and Athena yelled behind as they ran off towards the maze. My nerves were on end as I slowly put the backpack on.
     "I-I'm scared Newt." I said looking down. Newt pulled me into a hug, his strong arms tightly wrapped around my body.
     "You'll be fine Y/N, you're smart, brave and strong, if anything you have a better chance of survival than I do! Besides, Minho and Athena know the maze like the back of their hands, just promise me you'll make it back before the doors close okay?" Newt's arms still held me tightly. I felt a gentle kiss on my forehead. "I'll take you to the doors, come on now." Newt pulled away from the hug and his hand grabbed mine. We jogged towards the opening doors as I looked down at our interlaced fingers. I was scared that it was possibly the last time I would see Newt, I was scared that I would never be able to be with him like I was last night. I cherished every moment with his hand gripping mine as we ran towards the doors.
     "We were scared you shanks were making out again!" Minho teased.
     "Okay let's go! You ready Y/N? We got a big day today." Athena asked, knowing I was scared out of my mind.
     "Hey this is Y/N's first time in the maze right? We should have like a special speech or something!" Minho said, trying to bring up the mood. I smiled, Minho's optimism comforted me. Athena and Newt both rolled their eyes.
     "Okay fine, go for it." Athena said, shaking her head.
     "Okay uhh, let's go out see what's out there and find a way out!" Minho exclaimed, looking around for an applause.
     "Great, now we're all bloody inspired." Newt replied sarcastically as he rolled his eyes. Minho shrugged it off. I looked into the maze, even though it was day, the walls seems to be darker and gloomier. I was scared but then I looked at Minho and Athena who stood beside me and I remembered why I was there. To find a way out for everyone in the maze.
     "Be careful okay love?" Newt's soft brown eyes seemed to say "come back to me" and I smiled back at him reassuringly.
     "Always." I replied as Newt kissed my forehead gently. And with that, the warmth of Newt's hand disappeared as I let go of his grip and followed Minho and Athena into the maze.
