- Newt's Perspective -

The maze doors were going to close in five minutes, they should be out by now! I thought, starting to panic as I jogged towards the maze doors, Chuck followed.
"They'll make it Newt, don't worry, Minho and Athena are the best runners we've got.." Chuck tried to reassure me, noticing that I was panicking.
"I'm not as worried about them as I am with Y/N okay? But she'll be fine, I know she can make it." I wasn't sure if I was reassuring Chuck or myself. More gladers started gathering around the doors, worried that the trio hadn't returned. Murmurs from the crowd grew louder and louder as time passed.
"They aren't gonna make it!" One boy from the back yelled.
"Shut it shank! You wouldn't even make it!" Another argued. The chatter grew and eventually became cheers as Minho and Athena came into view. My heart raced as I searched for Y/N. Where is she?! I bit my lip and ran my hand through my hair frustrated and panicked. A few seconds later, there was still no sign of her. Minho and Athena came closer and the maze doors started to shut. All of a sudden I spotted a familiar figure, her clothes were drenched with sweat and she looked scared, like she was running from something. It was Y/N. My heart raced faster and faster.
"YOU CAN DO IT Y/N A LITTLE FURTHER, C'MON!" I yelled as loud as I could, the opening to the doors grew smaller and smaller with every second. Suddenly, a hideous creature with a green sluggish body and mechanical legs like a spider appeared. It was a Griever and it was chasing Y/N. All of a sudden, everything seemed to go in slow motion. The screaming and shouting of the gladers was muted and all I could focus on was Y/N, I wanted to move, to go in and save her but my body wouldn't.

Time returned to normal as Minho and Athena ran through the doors, huffing and puffing. Y/N was still there, if she didn't make it she would be alone in the maze. The Griever seemed to run faster and faster but fortunately Y/N was still far ahead. I continued to cheer but my hope started to fade. The opening in the doors shrank as my heart sank. I looked at Y/N with tears rolling down my cheeks. A certain adrenaline suddenly rushed through my body as I wiped away my tears. Then and there, I decided to go in before it was too late. I ran towards the closing doors, I will NOT let Y/N die!! The thought repeated in my head like a broken record until a strong hand gripped my wrist, pulling me back.
"LET ME GO!" I yelled, knowing the familiar grip of Alby's hand. "THE DOORS ARE CLOSING LET ME GO!" I yelled even louder, becoming more frustrated. The tears came back, flowing down my cheeks like a waterfall.
"You'll get yourself killed, Newt." Alby's strong arms wouldn't let me budge. The doors closed, followed by Y/N's scream that echoed through the glade. And then, complete silence.

- Y/N Perspective -

The maze doors shut and my eyes widened as I realized my fate. The griever now cornered me and all that was on my mind was Newt. I screamed at the Griever, tears flowing down my face as I accepted my death. In that moment however, knowing I was going to die, I wasn't disappointed. In my short lived five months in the glade, I have helped the gladers find new discoveries, I had given them hope. I made friends as well and more importantly, I found love. I was happy with my life, proud even. I knew I wouldn't die a useless death. Newt must be devastated, I thought, maybe we'll meet again in another life. I felt a sharp object pierce through my chest followed by darkness.

- Newt's Perspective -

I looked down at the ground, I was crying so hard that I couldn't even say anything. The one girl I loved was probably now dead. The sadness didn't last long as it quickly turned into anger.
"SHE'S DEAD ALBY. SHE DIED ALONE AND I COULD HAVE BEEN THERE WITH HER!" I looked at Alby, my eyes were red and puffy and as I threw my arm up to punch him. I quickly decided that wouldn't be a very good idea and dropped my arm before my fist made contact with his face. Minho and Athena stood in front of the maze, not saying a word, not even looking at each other. Both of them cried quietly to themselves as they stood side by side.

A couple days had passed since the incident. I spoke to no one and no one spoke to me. I spent most of my days sitting under Y/N's favorite spot, looking into the sky. I knew Alby and the others were concerned but I didn't care. As for Minho and Athena, I haven't spoken one word or given them a single glance. I don't think those two are talking to each other either. None of the runners went into the maze. I mean who could blame them? They had no Y/N to report back to after their run. I threw a pebble in frustration. I cried every night thinking about her, my eyes remained red and puffy ever since the doors shut on her. I couldn't help but blame myself either, I could've stopped her from going, I mean she was scared in the first place. It was all my fault.
