- Y/N Perspective -

It's been a week since Mary landed a job as a Med-Jack. She worked alongside Eleanor like a nurse. Eleanor was the greenie that came after me. She was tall, looked to be about 17, she had blonde hair, green eyes and fair skin. She was quite slim and didn't really have a lot of muscle to her, it was almost clear to Newt and Alby that she wouldn't be a builder or track-hoe. I thought they were just being sexist when Newt told me his guesses for her job but after seeing her treat one of Clint's sickest patients, it was like she was born for it.

I had just woken up and I laid on my hammock with my eyes shut, not sleeping, but thinking. Again. Nothing in particular was really on my mind, I just wanted some quiet before someon-
"BREAKFAST!!" Frypan cut my train of thought but after seeing Winston slice up some pig the day before, I knew bacon was on the menu and I immediately got up to get first dibs. The girls usually sat in one table along with a few guys and I quickly spotted them. Donna, a builder, waved me over to sit as soon as she spotted me. Donna was such a kind person. She came up a month after Eleanor. She was considered "one of the guys" I guess you could say. She was super strong, tall, loud, basically a guy but wearing a girl costume almost. With her, let's just say looks can be quite deceiving because kind and gentle would not be the first words to pop into my mind as far as first impressions go.
I stood behind a short line, relieved that most of the boys were probably still asleep. As my turn to order came up, I felt a soft tap on my back which startled me.
"What the shuck!" I exclaimed quickly turning around.
"Well good morning to you too Y/N!" Newt sarcastically laughed. His laugh was like music to my ears. Wait .. What??? It was that shucking feeling again! I ignored it as I along laughed with Newt.
"Morning Y/N, what would ya like today!" Frypan happily walked over and looked at Newt and then his eyes darted back at me with a wink.
"Oh stop it Fry!" Newt laughed. What was that about? I felt the flutter in my chest fighting its way out but I continued to ignore it.
"Get me some of that juicy bacon Fry, it smells amazing!" My mouth was practically drooling, I was starving.
"Enjoy!" Frypan handed me a plate with perfectly crisp looking bacon.
"Wait for me Y/N!" I heard Newt shout behind me as I walked towards the table where Donna and the girls sat. I smiled back at Newt and nodded, letting him know I'd wait. I looked back at the table and noticed Diana look toward my direction. She looked back at the girls, whispered something and then all of them giggled. Diana was the greenie before Mary came up and after Donna. She wasn't very tall but also wasn't very short. She had curly red hair and cute freckles on her nose. Her bright blue eyes stood out to me the most. She worked as a track-hoe with Zart, she really enjoyed tending to our garden. I heard the girls continue to giggle as I turned around to face Newt walking in my direction. Geez, what was going on? It was like everyone knew something but me. Newt walked over with a smile and I smiled back.
"Can I sit with you this morning, love?" Newt asked as I sat at the far end of the table. Donna, who was on the other side of me, without hesitation, moved over, giggling towards the rest of the girls. What the shuck? I decided to ignore them.
"Of course, yeah go ahead!" I said as I looked up at him. I wonder why he had to ask, I mean he could've just sat down and I wouldn't mind. I guess he was just that much of a gentlemen, I smiled to myself.
"Where's Mary, Eleanor?" I looked up after taking a bite of bacon, noticing she wasn't at the table.
"Not awake yet. Last I saw her, she was still dead asleep on her hammock, that girl can sure sleep." Eleanor said as she took a bite out of her bacon and continued her conversation with Athena.
"Worried about the greenie, huh?" Newt asked.
"She hasn't talked to me for a week since we drove her mad with the whole 'think of a theory and maybe you'll be part of the brains' thing last week." I scoffed as I shook my head taking another bite out of my bacon.
"Give her time, besides I think Chuck over there is starting to like her." Newt pointed over to Chuck who was standing behind Mary in line. Well there she is, I thought to myself. Chuck and Mary looked like they were having a good conversation, they were both laughing, enjoying themselves.
"Well don't you like her Newt? I mean I do, she's kind, and she may be quiet but she sure has helped Eleanor with some patients." I said in reply to Newt, turning around facing him.
"No slinthead, I mean he likes her, like romantically." Newt said smirking. His smirk was so adorable.
"Romantically, huh? I never thought romance was possible in this hell hole." I scoffed and Newt laughed.
"Romance, not possible? I beg to differ Y/N." He smiled, staring into my eyes. My chest started to flutter but this time I didn't fight it. I liked the way it felt.
