I ran back to my room, almost tripping over my feet in the process.
Slamming the door shut behind me, I dragged myself into a sitting position. Whoever the mole is, they must have told the Russians that I'm here and I couldn't risk that.
I shuddered at the thought. With my effort of escaping him, I didn't want to face that monster again.
When I had finally successfully escaped, I overheard him saying he would assassinate the Italians when time comes, but why? He's with the Russians. I grasped. Both sides must've done something terrible to receive such hatred from either one. If the Italians and Russians collide, all hell breaks loose.
Someone took care of me after my mom's death. He was a good man, yet cruel, his son the exact replica of him. At least they were better than him, they were kind to the very end.
I couldn't really remember them, their faces a vague to me because I was only about nine years old at the time. I would need something to spike up that part of my memory.
An idea popped into my head as I rushed towards the window. It was a bit rusty but with my determination in hand, I managed to open the window applying all my strength. I glanced around the room one last time before shoving myself off the side of the mansion, landing rather gracefully as I bent my knees and touched my hands to the ground to absorb the impact. I took a quick glance around and saw the front gate a few feet from me.
Luckily, it was dark so no one could really see me. I hope.
I sped my way over to the tall gate, rattling it a bit but it was locked. Of course, my getaway couldn't be that easy. Looking towards the two big doors, I pushed them open as it reveals a garden. I quickly rushed outside, hoping to find an exit. However, my plan backfired as a light shown on me, men shouting things in Italian.
Quickly running back to my literal gate of freedom, I decided to climb over the gate like a ninja and was almost there when lights shone on me.
"La ragazza è in fuga!" (The girl is on the run.) The man shouted something as he ran to me. "Apri il cancello!" (Open the gate.)
My eyes widen as the gate began to slowly move, leaving me hanging. My hands clutched the gate's bar tightly.
I closed my eyes. You can do this. Count to three and jump.
One. My grip loosens.
Two. I lowered my body down the gate.
Three. I jumped off, landing on the ground as I rolled around in a few circles. Well, that sure is going to leave a big nasty bruise.
Men were shouting in Italian angrily as I quickly sprint to the road ahead. They chased after me but I didn't look back, just running as fast as my bare feet can take me to freedom.
"Cazzo!" Someone was in hot pursuit behind me. "Goddamit Maddie!"
I recognized the voice as Xavier's as I pushed myself to run even faster. I didn't know where I was going, just taking right turns and left turns in hopes I will find a way out.
A few exhausted minutes later, his words were true as I met up with a dead end. I cursed under my breath and turned around to face the one and only Xavier.
