We made our way into the crowd, Xavier's arm wrapped securely around my waist as if he's scared that I'll be running away.
Truth is, I didn't plan on running away anytime soon after I've seen what the consequences were.
I was tired, and still had questions that overflowed my thoughts. When was I not thinking?
"Testing, testing," the man said into the microphone, his eyes roaming among the abundance of people.
"Hello everyone!" he shouted as people cheered while others gave a whistle, "My name is Vincent and I'm going to be your host for the night!"
"The purpose of tonight's event consists of two reasons,"
"One is to get you drunk and have some fun," Vincent winks at the swarm of people that laughed, "Two, this is an event that is dedicated to a man that saved many lives, risking his own."
"Welcome, Antonio Venditti!"
The swarm of people applauded as a man just a few years older than me made his way over and stood next to Vincent.
He accepted the microphone that was given to him and waved to the horde of people, smiling.
"Thank you. Thank you, everyone," Antonio started off. "As some of you know, The Mercury Shadows broke into our estate only a couple of days ago. Our men got a tail on them after they left. We were able to retrieve the hostages that were captured over the past years but some didn't make it," he cleared his throat.
"A few men had lost their lives for us in the chaos..I know what the outcomes are for but I chose this life. And I know that one day I might not get to see the people I love again. They know it too. But it is always my mission to protect those who are family. And my loyalty shall remain to this famiglia and so should yours. The Italians!"
Everyone broke into claps and cheers as Antonio thanked the crowd once more and left.
I, however, thought differently. I wasn't family to the Italians. I'm still tied up with the Russians because of that stupid contract. That's what makes me the enemy here. I'm not family.
"Let the party begin!" Vincent announced, turning up the music.
At the pool, there was a big slide that was visible from under the water; half of the slide buried by water. It was like the ones you would see at water parks, but this one continued its way beneath the pool. God, I wondered where that leads to.
Tugging on Xavier's sleeve, I pointed to it, "Where are they going?"
He looked down to me, since I was shorter than him by a head, "That's where my club is at. The 'tunnel' or preferably the 'slide', directly takes you to another underground pool or club."
My jaw dropped. He has an underground pool? Hell, an underground club?
Shaking my head wildly, I held onto Xavier even tighter, "I can't go."
I was lying if I said I didn't want to go, I really wanted to. Sadly, I didn't know how to swim. I didn't get a chance to learn.
Plus, with me still healing from my injuries, I think it's best for me to go back to my room. I could enjoy some Netflix and food there. I just don't want my stitches to rip open. The thought of it alone makes me grimace.
Xavier smirked, "Too chicken?"
"My stitches," I said in a duh-tone as I waved my hand around my stomach, "I'm not 'too chicken' Xavier. Isn't there another way to get to your club?"
"Nickolai changed your bandages into waterproof ones just this morning. You'll be fine," he replied, his eyes flickering to my stomach, "There are stairs you can take although it takes longer."
