Darwin

I start the walk to Lolly's house. I turn onto the next street, Darwin Road, and there is Laura standing there in a beautiful midnight blue dress with high heels and a clutch bag her hazel eyes glistening and her shiny dark hair flowing over her neck and down her back. I felt under-dressed in my grey tux which is slightly big for my small stature but looks nice with my brown hair and deep blue eyes. I had tried to hide the bruises on my face from three weeks ago but they were still very slightly evident and creased the skin. s

"Where are you going?" I ask confused
"Out with you" Laura says smiling
"But I haven't asked you yet"
"Well, it was just a guess"

"The Italian it is then" I say

She takes my hand and together we walk down the road laughing and talking. My heart buzzing like a bee.

The entrance to the restaurant is very grand with tightly clipped bushes and flowers every where. A neat man, tall and well built, greets us and gives menus with gold plated edges to Lolly. 

We sit at a table near the back where it is quieter and enjoy a mock-tail.

"So when were you thinking of asking me out, officially, Nelson"

I am a little concerned she might say no but I give it a try. 

"Right Now.... Laura will you go out with me."

She turns to her left and pretends as if she talking to her friend (imaginary friend). Whispering and deliberately keeping me out of the loop. Eventually she purrs...

"I would love too."  

We laugh and start eating a beautiful meal. The lady waiting on us was a wonderful young woman with blonde hair and deep blue eyes. She kindly offer drinks and when she clears the plates we make a romantic exit holding hands and flirting. 

The walk home was subtle we just held hands and talked. It was great just to be away from life, with a friend, alone. No worries or concerns just simplicity and enjoyment.  

My bed felt warmer tonight. It was  filled with the memories of a great evening. No one could take that away those memories away from me or Lolly.
